I got a serviced residence unit in Penang Island, distance 23km fr my house.

Thinking to do air bnb.
Is it worth the effort? Really can earn a bit of money?

Any air bnb operator, pls give ur opinion

Penang usually do not allow AirBnB unlike KL.

If your property really cant rent out then that's your last resort..

Unless mgmt dont allow Airbnb operation.

But if your property has seafront and it's near tanjung tolong area then higher chances..

If you manage it then its not worth the time and effort.. Imaging travelling 46km a day both ways. Zz.

Get an operator to operate for you.

Don't think it is worth.

You need to have proper renovation, which is capital intensive.
Somemore, if bad luck meet with bad tenant resulted furniture spoilt or electrical appliances stolen or whatever, then instead of gaining a 'bit of money" becoming need to fork out extra.

But if already proper renovated, sitting idle and the apartment management allowed it, then it is another story.

Just get an operator to handle it for you.

The unit will be well taken care of and you will have some income coming in with the option to use the place for relatives/friends should you ever need to.

But i think those new one there have a way of doing. I stay Airbnb in Penang very value some more

Most hotels in penang area really expensive.. I'd rather stay via Airbnb if it has a high review.. and located in tourist spot...

Because renting a whole condominium/apartment is not something that happens in Penang? Most people who are willing to rent a place are those who 1. Cannot afford place in a short term. 2. People who move to work in Penang. Both of these cases are extremely low. Hence, lesser people would want to rent under 1 year contract.

Simple logic.

To answer TS. I have a friend who has an Airbnb in KL. The money is quite good but high risk as 1 bad tenant can ruin the entire house. There are many cases where people use the house for partying etc.

So if you want some income then need to choose the tenant properly based on review. Do not rent to people with no reviews.

It’s too far away for you to manage it.

Giving to operator is okay but it means you will be feeding the operator first before feeding yourself.

Way too subjective to give a direct answer, yes or no.

If you have tourist who rents it, be it 3-4 days week, as long it can cover your loan or even your maintenance fees as well. Then why not? Of course it'll be worthwhile though you have to travel back and forth for handling and collecting keys and so on.

If you tend to have only 1 or 2 days stay, then of course its unworthy.

One of my friends even rent other people's properties and did some makeover to rent it out as Airbnb. Thats all he does for living lol

EARN 100 per day is well worth it too. You've already covered the cost of everything, some more can earn from it whilst heavy supply? I'd its hell of a worthy.

i had a condo, renting to a small family for RM 1.3k a month

my friend bought the same, hes been doing airbnb. can earn about RM 2k + - a month. sometimes less than 1k.

every week go there clean, every 1 year have to refurbish a bit wall, paint, furnitures repair. cause people to move in and out knocking things. those are the cost.

also, probably the condo is too big that solo travelers don't book them. i guess studio apartment is better for airbnb.

Google AirBNB Operator in the area your property is located at and usually one or two would show up.

The other way is list your property on AirBNB and these vultures will contact you in no time.
