Is air bnb worth the effort? , Just one unit...

I got a serviced residence unit in Penang Island, distance 23km fr my house.
Thinking to do air bnb. Is it worth the effort? Really can earn a bit of money?
Any air bnb operator, pls give ur opinion

Penang usually do not allow AirBnB unlike KL.

Don't think it is worth.
You need to have proper renovation, which is capital intensive. Somemore, if bad luck meet with bad tenant resulted furniture spoilt or electrical appliances stolen or whatever, then instead of gaining a 'bit of money" becoming need to fork out extra.
But if already proper renovated, sitting idle and the apartment management allowed it, then it is another story.

Just get an operator to handle it for you. The unit will be well taken care of and you will have some income coming in with the option to use the place for relatives/friends should you ever need to. Because renting a whole condominium/apartment is not something that happens in Penang? Most people who are willing to rent a place are those who 1. Cannot afford place in a short term. 2. People who move to work in Penang. Both of these cases are extremely low. Hence, lesser people would want to rent under 1 year contract. Simple logic. To answer TS. I have a friend who has an Airbnb in KL. The money is quite good but high risk as 1 bad tenant can ruin the entire house. There are many cases where people use the house for partying etc. So if you want some income then need to choose the tenant properly based on review. Do not rent to people with no reviews.
