Hi All, My house is using 500mbs Unifi with router TP-LINK AC1200. Its a landed 3 storey house, so the router is being placed on the ground floor, and i also placed another wifi booster (TP-LINK AC1200 Wireless Dual Band Extender WiFi Booster Repeater RE305) on the first floor. But silly me thinking this might help the another house (100meters away) to get a stable internet connection, in this case, it doesn't.

The other house (100 meters away) can detect the wifi and connect it, but connection wise is very unstable. It get disconnect often and speed is only ranging between 2-3mbs. Please advice if any good router specifically for longer range or any other solutions are welcome. Thank you!

If you do not have problem like other house in between or any other obstruction, laying the cable like put in PVC pipe and lay shallow under ground is the best option like xswatch suggest. You will get full speed.

Otherwise use wireless bridge. A good directional antenna is recommended for good signal strength

Do you have any other house or other people's land in between those 2 houses?

100m is the design limit for most LAN cables before signal drop off. 100m here means the length of the land cables, not the straight distances between 2 house.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, we do have houses in between, and a row of 4 levels of townhouse in between as well. If i use wireless bridge, do you mean by getting another same router and place it at my grandma house and then connect it by enabling the WDS on the root router? Sorry i am not good at this.

Try this. 100m, 1Gigabit, no problem.

Wireless bridge need LOS (Line-0f-Sight). You must be able to see the other antenna on straight path and it is not like seeing opening between narrow lane sandwiches between building. It will not be a good path for RF signal. RF signal get reflected on hard surface like building and also smooth surface even water. So, the radio wave can negate each other like water ripple in Doppler effect.

So, I cannot say for sure this will work either. It looks like difficult path from your description. Now you are not allowed to erect an antenna post above your house I believe. sad.gif

the house that's 100m away can try using this usb wifi. It is meant for outdoor use and the original ads claim 3km detection range.. I dont claim so coz I've never do such testing.. biggrin.gif

I will buy 2 x TP-Link LAN-to-Fibre converters and a 100m outdoor fibre cable to link both houses up, for stable connection. The outdoor fibre is same as TM so should be no problem for durability. Price for this setup isn’t high too

https://item.jd.com/26706754833.html
A pair of the converter is about RM110 only, cheap cheap

Probably the only best solution is pull outdoor type cat6 cable
lazada link

The solution which given by xswatch was the only best method, otherwise you may try heidarren method. Buy a pair of LAN-to-Fibre converters. Then pull with outdoor fiber optics cable but I not sure how does these devices works.
lazada link

Pulling cat6 is my best traditional solution but I not so sure how much degradation about the network connection speed after a cat6 cable pulled over 100 meters. If possible can pull with fiber optics cable should be the best way to optimize and maintain full internet connection speed without degradation, as we know fiber optics cable has faster transfer speed up to 10,000mbps and longer transfer distance up to 12 miles according from here. Cat6 method is much costly because its wire are copper made, since I am surprisingly found that outdoor fiber optics cable is not expensive. Just RM114 only for 120 meters from the link above. Make sure you just roll it but do not bend the fiber optics cable during pulling from your house to your grandma house. Maybe do like what Zot said, hide inside PVC pipe then dig soil from your house to your grandma house. Then hide the PCV pipe underground. Otherwise, just hire workers to ask them help you to hang the optics cable to the outside TM pole.

The rest "wireless" solution are totally useless. Please do not try the wireless method, do not waste your money to buy the devices. It won't be the best stable solution.

lol, I use Wireless Bridge @ 474m LOS, borrow friend house to have Maxis Fiber 300Mbps in non Unifi Area, and very good!

What was required to get this done? As my mum's home is only but a street away from my sis. Walking distance of 150m, not LOS.

this is so cool. we all should do this. i mean sharing with the neighbors. 300Mbps - 500Mbps is quite overkill for someone. sharing the bandwidth can easily reduce the cost per person

Didn't know we can do that.

I wonder how's the power consumption of the device?

You need to remember that whatever your neighbors is doing, you will be responsible for it too
Let's say your neighbors visits pedophile website / hacks national security or whatever illegal things they do, you as the owner are responsible for it

Need LOS, try climb to rooftop if you can see their roof.
mine LOS with little palm tree, signal is OK even under 5GHz

You responsible for it, another way to conceal the connection, route all shared wireless to VPN

quite minimal, is like putting another high-end Asus router

Around 474m, 7dB power @ 23dBi, 80MHz.
Normal: -52dBm constant (Full Speed)
Rain: -53 to -57dBm (Full Speed)

---

I using Mid-entry wireless bridge that offer Gigabit LAN,
some wireless bridge claim 866Mbps WiFi link but LAN port is just 100Mbps, which is bottleneck at LAN.

using Maxis 300Mbps, house owner already have Unifi, so using existing GPON/ONU, simply use LAN#2 port.
Wireless Link max out at 300Mbps (PC to PC via iperf3) and it MAXOUT device CPU usage.

If you want faster wireless bridge (PTP/Point to Point), get a gigabit WiFi that operate at 60GHz (which is expansive)

2.4GHz, 5GHz and 60GHz is free to use without need a license.

my advice: subscribe to rm 79 30mb plan for your grandmother and downgrade your plan to 100mb(rm99).

Pay the penalty for downgrading.
