turbos are a new trend , no ?

Civic 1.5t

BMW 3 cylinder , twin turbo

you do realize, the old school turbos are nothing like modern turbos.... and you are really comparing vastly dfiferent kinds of engines

Expensive in terms of timing belt and plug change right?

Any other parts prone to have problems? Lower arms or something right?
*
workmanship when working on the car generally mahal. mau change plugs also blardy manifold has to come off. trouble shooting is no fun.

suspension itself isn't prone to issues but keep in mind. 1) its an old car 2) its got a multilink suspension all round. see what i'm getting at?

you should ask yourself first, how much are you willing to put into it.

Thanks for the info sir. Just spoke to my mech, he says it's quite alright to buy at that price. For below 10k not much to complain as the money saved can be used for changing the wear and tear parts and make it driveable on a daily basis. A 10 year old Myvi costs RM14K to RM15K, whereas a similar aged PV6 cost slightly over half of that these days. If able to find a rather well maintained one, it will be a steal. The parts aren't too expensive or hard to source either.
*
parts are all ok.... but ill just say this, almost all the 6a12 owners i know, have swapped them out for 4g's.... some for power others cause of the maintenance when they are old. As i said earlier, its very very difficult to troubleshoot when it comes to this mitsu v6

so far I am having issues with GB only. This my company's car. mostly lenjan on highway. I think my preve lower arm quality is worst than Perdana. tongue.gif
*
preve punya lower arms are off the wira actually. Heavier preve body, malaysian crappy roads... well shorter lifespan

mind to share type of engine that they've opted?
*
almost straight through 63t, admittedly the ppl i know are kaki lenjan so thats the go to option. v6tt, errrr well lets just say they also went 63 later on (but high speed cruising on highways, the v6s were definitely nicer)

QUOTE(Speedstar1 @ Jul 9 2019, 10:53 PM)
Aren't the 4Gs equally old? The turbos are mostly landmines by now unless willing to spend money to change the parts that are bound to leak or fail. The NA 4G63 isn't all that appealing apart from better engine bay access for repair works
*
they tend to rebuild them. compared to overhauling the v6, its not horribly expensive. The few of my friends that kept stock 63's actually seem to be okay actually. All you need is some luck and a good mech. Replace the typical failing parts at this age and they were good to go... also, join the evo groups, you will find stock bits are easy to find and not that exp. stock turbos are everywhere and cheap

Hmm those RVR or Evos are also tempting. Also quite a number going below 10k with fair amount of stuff installed ie coilovers, upgraded brakes and cosmetic stuff. Pretty tempting. Maybe budget 2k to 3k to refresh it would be just nice eh
*
2-3 ah...... err well should be enough to get rid of the annoying problems assuming theres nothing really major wrong with the car... really refreshing it will cost more...

Yup, airbag also tarak. But at least the body is quite rigid structurally unlike other Protons of that era
*
but its still of that era, not exactly what i would call kuat...

memang a comfortable car at high speeds, so long as u dont pandai pandai lower or install way stiffer suspension.

gearboxes dont torture, tambah atf cooler can last. Anyway im not mistaken these days its under 3k to have it redone. i think its about 2k for a refurb box?

ya memang don't plan to do much. make it fairly reliable and comfy enough. long distance cruiser for cheap

Eterna/ Galant bodies are stiffer right? I see some P owners even swap out the doors for JDM parts
*
sama sama je... those are jdm suckers... do or die mau jdm parts....

**certain models oklah theres a valid reason to tukar jdm bits... perdana, not really.

Btw do u know if the 7G Galant front end fits the PV6? The one with the square spotlights look really nice IMHO, without those bullbars

user posted image
*
can~ whole front end must be swapped....

do note tho, but if im not wrong, technically if they wana saman u for this, they can saman you tiap hari..

@lsm1991, any thoughts on the sharkmouth Galant? Is the GDI 2.0 any good? VR4?

user posted image
*
tbh no opinions on the 2.0, i literally paid 0 attention to em.

the real vr4 i like... but parts are not very common and the turbos enjoy getting cooked.

was seriously considering transplanting this engine into my car, (mind you mines a 'terbalik') but none of the mechs i approached wanted to do it let alone touch it with a 10 foot long pole. they said the v6 is troublesome, now throw in 2 snails all that piping into the small enginebay and its the definition of hell.
