Hey guys, post the dumbest myth about guitars that you've heard.

Mine is something i heard my friend say. According to him, playing guitar more than 4 hours daily would cause you to lose skin and flesh cells from the tips or your finger. And in 2 years time, your fingers would be around 1cm shorter. LMAO!

Actually.... here's a reverse myth....

Because of all the calouses.... you grow our fingers 1mm longer!

A guitar myth is that you need to be godly on guitar to impress girls. I think it actually deters them more.

Imo, they dun play guitar to impress girl but more like to express their feeling thru the music.

reminds me of a time this sh!tface "guitarist" comes around talking big and all so i asked him
"hey you look pretty good man so like you can play solos?"

then he said
"of course la.. i can play damn a lot, some quite hard but i also play la"

then i said
"hard? like what songs?"

then he said
"wake me up when september ends, boulevard of broken dreams......"

i didnt hear the rest, i just laughed at him and walked off

That's why everyone should learn at LEAST one show off solo piece........

Did you know PRS guitars aren't "handmade"... not since 1995 when they started using expensive CNC machines to make the bodies. Even their inlays aren't abalone since maybe 1-2 year after that.

I've done quite a bit of research on high-end guitars 'coz believe it or not, at one point I actually wanted to invest in collectable guitars. My target was PRS 37 and 75... Heck, even my BSc thesis was on e-business in the guitar industry (I got honours =D).

So anyway, Myth: PRS is handmade.

PRS im sure final touches like improving feel are done by hand.
something that no MIC or MIK will ever do.
likewise for gibson, also those gibsons with ebony boards have to be fretted by hand and not machine.

Well...it is a damn good guitar piece especially the acoustic live version. Can't blame them.

ya, but come on...after i told them i was goina play that song once. they went like OMFG.........like immma goina nail technical difficulties or perpatual burn. i played only the intro, none of those nice classical guitar stuff and they look at me like im the 1337 guitar player.

This is not really a dumb myth but here is something I heard from my Ex- Bass Teacher.


Jimi Hendrix was famous for playing on a Stratocaster but he wanted to try the tone of the PRS Santana so he ordered one.

Unfortunately, before he got his PRS Santana he passed away.

fact - there were no prs guitars back in 1970 when hendrix died.
around that time, santana was using gibson SGs and also yamaha SGs.

play enough guitar and u'll lose ur fingerprints so then u can become a thief or kill somebody without using gloves cause the cops can't figure out the finger prints at the crime scene.... they should do an episode based on that theory on CSI
