QUOTE(ClarenceT @ Aug 25 2019, 09:38 AM) Fast processing no need to wait for approval code. Quite common at supermarkets, Mr DIY. But for debit card paywave, it will check if you have enough money in your CASA. QUOTE(cybpsych @ Aug 25 2019, 09:39 AM) this is online/offline processing, not necessary related to "internet status". Thanks for the explanation, ClarenceT and cybpsych. the terminal still can capture the transaction and approve while in offline mode, just not realtime update to bank/card network. So, as credit card users, we are unable to determine whether contactless transactions are processed online, or offline, right? From my limited experience of using credit cards, if I tap Maybank credit cards at Maybank terminals (either for Visa Paywave or Amex ExpressPay transactions), the contactless transactions are usually processed online and I can see the approval code on the charge slips. On the other hand, if I tap Maybank credit cards at Public Bank terminals for Visa Paywave transactions, the approval code becomes VLP111, indicating offline processing. So, to avoid offline processing, should I need to ensure that it is same bank, both at card issuer side, and card acquirer side? For example, I need to tap Public Bank credit cards at Public Bank terminals, for contactless transactions. Is my understanding correct? This post has been edited by kart: Aug 25 2019, 07:11 PM |

PKPS Cafe - Slip shows "Contactless Entry" & "Offline" Uniqlo - Slip shows "Contactless"; I think this transaction is "Online" I don't know the difference between the two. |

QUOTE(ClarenceT @ Aug 25 2019, 01:43 PM) Most of the card machines shall accept Paywave but the cashier stops it. So normally I will ask the cashier first. Cashier stops it? Isn't using contactless is easier for the cashier? FYI, you can use Paywave at Giant, Guardian, Watson's, Everrise, Parkson. Next time I'll try to use contactless in these places. My 1st time using contactless in mcd was due to the machine couldn't read my credit cards & the cashier asked me whether I have contactless card... QUOTE(jefftan4888 @ Aug 25 2019, 01:59 PM) Did you use the TNG promo? Pump Shell RM50 get RM5 rebate or 10% discount which is better than Amex 5%. I don't use tng as there is no toll to pay in sabah (yet). Apart from the 10% for shell, any other goodies? Do I have to actually hold a tng card in order to use the app? |

If online, you can find the 6-digit approval code on the slip. Uniqlo - Slip shows "Contactless"; I think this transaction is "Online" And check your available credit limit (modern m2u), the offline transaction doesn't reduce your available CL. QUOTE(lhsu @ Aug 25 2019, 07:36 PM) Some cashiers feel paywave is not secure to them as you don't key in the PIN. They are worried you use a lost/stolen card. So they insist you to use Chip and PIN. Very common in Kuching! |

I don't think they would be held responsible anyway.Anyway, will try to observe whether paywave is accepted when using CC next time. This post has been edited by lhsu: Aug 25 2019, 08:04 PM |

I heard the cashier will always auto (no need customer to ask) ask tap (customer hold) or pin before payment is made in singapore. But here is different. Hence their worry is baseless.I heard the cashier will always auto (no need customer to ask) ask tab (customer hold) or pin before payment is made in singapore. But here is different. That should be the case. Tab it is much more convenient. That's the whole idea for contactless card. You'll feel it the most especially when you "drive through"... Whatever is it, it's their shop, it's their policy. There is nothing we can do... |
