Whoa, in the latest entry on the Malaysia REITs blog, TOWER jumped from a yield of about 7% to over 9%. It wasn't on my radar before because of its relatively low yield compared to its peers, but it is now. Anyone here who's into this one?

I use CIMB's iTrade portal and I received payment for UOA and ARREIT directly in my trading account. Strangely, I haven't received the AXREIT one yet. Surely it should be instantaneous?

QUOTE(Jordy @ Sep 4 2009, 03:21 PM) Oh, AXREIT goes ex-date today, and still going strong. Up by another 2 cents as of now, giving me a nice total return of 50% in 6 months AXREIT up to 1.85 today. You must be really happy.

I'm on the record on this forum as being a supporter of capital gains taxes and since this RPGT is in effect a form of capital gains tax, I heartily support it. Note that I have a significant amount invested in REITs but I still support it because:
1) Like Cherroy, I believe that curbing short-term speculation is good for the long-term health of the economy. 2) I believe that it is the socially just thing to do.
I only wish that something similar could be implemented on shares. That should really thin the ranks of the day traders and make sure that only long-term investors are in on the ride. I'd imagine it would make the market less volatile as well.

QUOTE(Neo18 @ Oct 29 2009, 10:36 AM) no insider news la.. she as quiet as a mouse.. won't leak out anything. but one thing for sure, she told me, i got more unit than her!!! hahaha Insider trading is technically illegal in Malaysia, right? Which means that publicly admitting it on the Internet would be extremely dumb even with a pseudonym.

Wow, my AXREIT is showing a paper gain of like 22%. I can't imagine what you guys who bought it much earlier are seeing. Sure seems overvalued now though.

One point worth considering is that making the dividend payments more often should increase the company's administration costs, ultimately cutting into the yield. I have no idea how big of a difference it makes, but I believe that even making the regular quarterly reports represents a significant cost for listed companies. Moving it to a monthly system should be extremely expensive.

Looks like all these REITs really love related party transactions. I know that the yields are all still good at the moment, but this kind of stuff makes me nervous as a small time investor, like the big players are pulling off a scam behind my back.
