Hi,

My department has given me RM 2500 to buy a PC/desktop. Can someone recommend me a good build. It is for office work. I will be recycling the Palit GT730 card from the previous PC. Will also use multimonitor setup.

Here are my requirements/needs.
1. Recycle the Palit GT730
2. 24" or bigger monitor. HD
3. SSD 256 GB or more for windows to boot.
4. DVD RW
5. Windows X OS (fine with OEM)

Other components I don't mind. I have Office enterprise, so don't need office.

Any ideas?

most bang for buck? Want to recycle card. Even though office PC, the 2500 PC is considered mine and not office property.

But can you live without your pc for a month if your motherboard needs rma? Thats the question, if you can by all means go diy. Office builts i prefer to take prebuilts because part replacement can be done the next business day

Can. In Kelantan, nothing gets settled next business day since need to ship to KL/Penang. The IT department is there to help whenever we have problems. That is their job. I've been using 2 ownbuild PC's for 6 years now. Still fine. Need to send to IT dept to clean install from time to time. Schedule those when I am outstation so that does not disrupt my own workflow.

If you buy prebuilt and nothing gets settled next business day means you got ripped off badly. Lets say you buy a Dell prebuilt, its in the warranty contract which is next business day service. Dont say in Kelantan, even in the remote jungles of Borneo, they still have to honour it. Your location is not a problem at all. Ppl like us who often buy servers have a 4 hour same day service level agreement. You imagine if bank systems can go down for more than a day....catastrophic losses pal. In Kelantan you do have banks dont you ?
Its true, IT dept has to support you. But if hardware failure, they cannot magically create a replacement IT hardware. Parts still need to come from vendor.

Well.. this is just my opinion on business use machines though.

Oh. You mean that kind service. Noted. We still buy prebuilt for efficient well catered scenarios provided by vendors. This will never change. SFF or touchscreen or office based pcs are still way better built by vendors than by whatever prebuilt. Not so bothered about warranty, unless it is more than 3 years or mission critical pcs attached to hardware which cost 6 or 8 figures. Pcs rarely fail now unless you get a lemon.

The hardware spec in the op is meant for me to know what specs I can get for the amount of money. The information will be discussed with the users. For people who don't care about the pc/just want to do excel, I recommend that they get from major vendors. For power users, I will let them know of the specs mentioned here. Up to them what they want to buy.
