Hi all! I'm a collector of PVC figures, SIC & Gundam which I started in year 2006. Currently I have 30+ boxes of Gundam (MG + 1/100) & 40+ boxes of PVC figures+SIC. one day, I was ask by my cousin on what I plan to do with my collection after 10 years. Sell it on e-bay, throw as rubish, keep in storeroom, stop the collection or other? I never though it before until he mention, 10 years from now I will have my own family to support, house/car loan, plan for children education & other.

I was thinking on either cut down my collection or stop my collection after 1 or 2 years as it such an expensive hobby just to satify my self. Some more, my collection keep on increasing month by month with new release items from japan. If I never start the hobby, I properly have save lot of money or get poison by the hobby.

So, do state out on what you plan to do with your collection after 10 years. Currently I still have no idea what to do with my collection.

1) if you are rich ---> give to charity, exp me brows.gif
2) if you dun want to waste the effort----->keep and make private museum..can wait for national display anywhere around the globe and participate(if such things exist)
3) last lelong it off

his collection is not big. i know of someone has bigger collection than his but his concern is kinda wut we collectors think off sometimes as well... u look at ur collection. value them roughly u spent bout RM30k on it. then think wut am i gonna do with it next time when im old? it will or may not come pass ur mind but when it does, ull start thinking... then u will think also if not because of this hobby i will have extra RM30k to spend. can get a car or something....invest etc.... normal thinking....ive been there and i sold all off and now slowly starting back but have to know my priorities. hobbies is always behind commitments....

When I was young I collected power rangers .
When I was 12 I spent thousands on Magic Cards
When I was 14 I spent thousands on Gundam
When I was 15 I sold my Magic cards and made abt 5k plus, if i minus the amount i spent buying it, i came out with abt 1000 - 1200 profit.

Now Im 20, with all my power ranger robots intact, my Gundams in a cup board and im still collecting them. Im not a person who buys Gundams just for the sake of buying though. I just buy those special ones that I like from the Gundam Series.

10 years from now, Ill buy a big cupboard in my hse and put it on display like how my mom displays her crystal collection. No doubt it will be worth quite a lot cause I meticulously spray my Gundams and lock them up in a air tight cupboard but if you ask me if i'd sell them, I would say no.

Its for personal pleasure, not to make money. 10 years, maybe 20 years, id still collect Gundams, if the interest is still there or if Gundam still exists. Maybe it will be a hobby for me and my kids something like how I play golf with my dad.

well..like u said also...if you never spend on this hobby...then you will be spending on other things also...

let say people you crazy about cars...then go modified it endlessly

ppl who crazy about pc...mod it, upgrade it..it never end also...

it just normal human desire...it never enough and satisfied on what they already own...

What to do with your collection? Very interesting...

For me, have always been a collector since young, Transformers, GI Joe, MASK, cassettes/CDs, etc. When I reached my 20s, all packed and stored in the storeroom or given to charity, etc, as no other avenues to pass on - sell on eBay/Lowyat.NET/etc. A tinge of regret, but nonetheless have to do at that point of time of my life.

Since 1993, started to collect football jerseys/kits, and now got over 250+ pcs, esp of my favourite teams, Chelsea and AC Milan. No space to put/hang already, that's why retiring as of season 07/08. Also, got some other small collectibles as well like football figurines and F1 models, but those are minor if compared to my jersey collection!

My intention is to make something like a museum at my new house next time, as yes, it's already time to move on with other new projects like house, renovation, car, own family, etc. But at least I will have some sort of a remembrance of my hobbies this time round, as opposed to me not keeping my earlier collection in my early years. I have yet to come to the point where I am thinking of passing on my collection, or selling it off, and I think I will cross that bridge when I get there.

In the meantime, time for me to sit back and enjoy my collection for the past 15 years or so. Wish me luck! biggrin.gif

true..unlike gadgets and electronics...toys values sometimes can get higher depends on how rare it going to be..especially those that never been open and MIB

Well, i will display my toys nicely at my house. probably pass it to my kids later on, if they still want them
My collection is also like yours, mostly Gundam and SIC.

Ive known some collectors who just gave up, sell all their collections and bought a PS 3 or Wii .

BTW- there is a SIC thread in LYN

hobby can be balance up once ur married? yes it can but most likely ur attention will be given to ur child first. u cant enjoy the life ur having now. buy gundam model then build for 6 hours straight. dont eat also nevermind.... this kinda lifestyle will be long gone as i dont believe ur child will take a nap for 6 hours... lol... dont say nite time la.... but how also the passion u have for the hobby will never die. its just ur time spent on it will be lesser only.

you a father then?

my sifu who thought me everything about painting model kits has a 3 children and still manage to love his hobby as he is before he get married last time...nothing change...

some people dont have to be married to think about all these...some people when single buy and play so many toys...then once he got a gf...the gf said no more toys...then also can leave the hobby what...

its bascially depends on you...totally on you...wheather you wanna make things hard for yourself or enjoy your life till end...

Thank for sharing out your guys plan, at lease I have a clear picture on what to do with my collection after 10 years. I properly will built an indoor cupboard to display my collection when I own a house. The special & memories collection I will keep it while other I will sell it off if there still demand in the market.

I think I will still continue with my collection for 1 or 2 years since is not some things like you can cut it off in 1 day. But, will try to cut down the cost by buying the special 1 since it such an expensive hobby.
