A game console should be able to play most Blu-ray, why need to buy a specific player, have you experienced with any region block before, why need to be concerned about it?

Panasonic higher end UB series are only widely available in UK and European region.

Why this specific model ?
Why not the Sony 's UBP X700 ?

4k UHD have no region lock at all, only normal bluray and DVD got region setting

I have a UK Panasonic UB700 and not no issue playing 4k disc from UK, US, Taiwan, Malaysia etc, only bluray lock to Region B

Having said that, I have since bought an OPPO 203 and would let go of the Panny if anyone interested

-Panasonic ub820 support HDR10+ AND DOLBY VISION .
-Second-generation HCX image processor as its stablemates, and does a commendable job with both Ultra HD platters and regular Blu-rays. UHD discs are upscaled to 4:4:4 colour sub-sampling
-analogue audio output supports 7.1

The key question is , do you have a display that supports both of that format ?

If not any obsession on the format is pointless .

No , the A8F does not support HDR10+ (Not to be confused with HDR 10).

Nor it can do any dynamic tone mapping , like its more expensive brother A9F .

4K UHD Blu-ray is region free. No longer locked.

But Blu-ray itself still locked and Malaysia model is same as USA region A.

If the model you get us USA model, shouldn't be any issue for Blu-ray but if you get from UK then it is locked to region B.

Oppo is freaking expensive because it is the only in market can region switch.

But Oppo already stop making Blu-ray player, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player and possible means no more support in future.

based on your requirement it doesnt tell me cheap stuff also. Get a decent 1 bro. Oppo had stop production but there are lot of enthusiast still looking for this unit thats why the price mark is still there. Ppl constantly mod this unit because they provide a good base. You can do more research on this. If budget is not allowed get 203. 203 u will get the same / almost same picture quality but lower audio processing board. 205 is more audio oriented. As the oppo stop making unit, ppl start to comment on new product like cambridge audio / pioneer and see if they are at par with Oppo.
