RM3.5k you can consider business laptops, wait for Thinkpads with Ryzen 4000 or go for Latitude 5000/7000 series DFO
*
Meaning this Thinkpads with Ryzen 4000 is not available yet right? Worth the wait? I am not interested in any refurnished unit.

Around the price range of RM3k, what would you recommend? I checked out Thinkpads like you suggested, there are many options though, which would you recommend since I can't tell the difference much besides the price doh.gif

So dell is not recommended ya?

They are not available yet, probably will arrive around August. If you can wait then wait

Around RM3k previously there are Thinkpad T495 and X395, but now both models are more expensive. If you want 'true' business laptops, consider Thinkpad P/T/X series (minimum L series) / Latitude 5000/7000 series / Elitebook 800/1000 series

I only recommend models not brands

Acer Swift 3 SF314-41-R5UP/R3AS +RAM

Nowadays laptops in general won't last long due to mass production and business tactic, 3-5 yrs would be my best bet
*
Both R5UP & R3AS can upgrade RAM?

This seller probably not aware of the extra slot right? Is there really any Swift 3 model with no extra slot? I'm afraid they might wrongly advertised it as Acer Swift 3 SF314-41-R3AS but it's actually another variant with no extra RAM slot.

SF314-41 / SF314-54/54G - 1 upgradeable slot
SF314-42 / SF315-55/55G / SF314-57/57G - no upgradeable slot

Dear sifus,

Currently looking for a laptop for wife.

1. Budget : Estimated 3k or max 4k
2. Usage : Normal Ms Office usage, checking emails thru browser, multiple tabs in Chrome, occasionally YouTube/Spotify, planning to play The Sims 4
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) :
- between 13 to 14"
- acceptable battery life (hopefully min 5 hours without power adapter)
- lightweight if possible (below 1.4kg)
- need min at least 8GB RAM and min storage 256GB SSD
- if there good laptop withing few months can still wait (aware the AMD 4xxx series is out)

Remarks: Will need to understand your professional opinion whether the default integrated gpu of Intel/AMD able to support playing The Sims 4 properly (decent frame rate/no thermal issue)? If not, is it advisable to switch to gaming laptop series to be able play The Sims 4 properly? If to switch gaming laptop, any chance my budget and weight still withing the range?

Thank you.!

Hi, I think if u want to play it smoothly, you will still need a gaming laptop. I wouldn't suggest playing w integrated graphics haha, its hell. Price range wise varies, you can take a look at acer nitro 5. I think its within 3.5-4.5k

Hi, not too sure as it will be my wife playing the game. Perhaps any chance for middle setting? or what option do I have for:
1. High setting
2. Low setting

Thanks a lot.

Something like MX150/MX250 25w should be fine with highest settings, however not many <1.4kg laptops equipped with the 25w variant of MX150/MX250

Can consider these:
Lenovo Yoga S740 81RS00AWMJ
Illegear Ionic

the new one is quite demanding from what I saw...need at least 1050TI

Illegear Raven / Raven SE or Level51 Forge 15, Y540 1650 not that worth if you don't have student discount

Get either A1000 or SX8200 Pro if you want PCIe drive

Which Swift 3 model?
*
Student discount is roughly how much %?

Dear Sifu,

Thanks for the suggested models.
If I to wait for upcoming AMD series laptops (max 2-3 months), any chance the performance to price ratio comparable to above models?

Thanks again.

Why are the Thinkpad T495 & X395 more expensive now? I thought they should be getting cheaper due to newer models are available and stuffs.

And would you recommend Thinkpad E495? Thanks.

CPU performance will be significantly better, however most Ryzen 4000 laptops don't come with dGPU. Vega iGPU couldn't match MX250 25W in most cases.

You're welcome

I really have no idea

E495 is consumer grade, still a decent model though but price has slightly increased as well
