although getting out of topic, I would recommend the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 actually. the diff between 17 and 28 is bigger than the difference between 50 and 75.

the 28-75 just might not be wide enough for walkabout, whereas the 17 is really useful

do maybe you already own a wider lens?

or or.. a FF camera? brows.gif

17-50 is the successor for the 28-75 on digital format. get the 17-50 if u're using digital only. much lighter.

The 17-50 is technically a 28-75mm (actual = 27-80mm) on canon APS-C, which is a very popular range on 35mm. But what you said is true, 2.8 is not really neccessary at the wide end, but you'd be able to shoot indoor wide open, and you get wider dof control...then again, dof is bleh at 17mm.

But if you are cool with your kit lens, and plan to get a 50mm 1.8, the 28-75 is probably a more rational buy. You'd probably end up using it as a portrait lens. (don't see myself using it, since i like bokeh, tele is the way to go if you have the working distance tongue.gif)

btw, I'd take tamron plastic over sigma plastic. Sigma's plastic lens has been very fragile, and the paint peels more often than the metal ones. Just try to avoid china made tamron and strive for japan made ones. thumbup.gif
