For painting and finishing works, what should I do first? 1 - Straight paint 2 - Draw Lining Also, what should we dos and don'ts before paint? I understand there's thinner, etc. etc. I just don't know what I need as I'm buying some paints and practice on my 1/144 FG model... |

QUOTE(erh_teo @ Mar 5 2008, 02:30 PM) modelling is something we normally dealt with during our free time and leisure.. if u already busy with work, of course no time learning la.. let alone modelling and painting.. anyway.. the link ozak posted has only 1 page to tell the truth.. it's only for refereshments.. coz seriously.. there's no one and no such thing as read once understands all.. u have to keep learning and doing it to master ur skills.. if u consider the learning process of painting and lining a tiring job and too troublesome to learn.. my advice is don't do it as it will really doomed ur kit. some people just flat coat (using a flat topcoatfr Gunze) it and doing lining with gundam markers (at the tutorial link).. it's already looking very nice I just don't know what kind of paint, thinner should I buy... somemore, I'm visiting TM after work later. probably buying some paint... I need to know that whether I had to apply thinner, or do anything to the kit before applying paint. Apologize if there's any offend words |

I got few crappy 1/144 kits to try on first... At least, I won't ruin my coming MG Wings and PG Wings The matter I don't have time to search around now was that freaking Streamyx haven't activated yet... So I don't have access to all the guides, tutorial and come asking here instead...I off @ 4pm and I've plenty plenty of free time... Just don't have access to web @ home for now... Just easy and go. Assume that I'm kind of getting the idea of it, see if I'm wrong in the whole process... I'm bad @ it and need advices.. 1) Paint + Thinner 2) Paint on the Kits 3) Let it Dry 4) Do lining Am I correct or I'm missing some parts here? |

Ok, I found out some mechanism to put the pieces together. 1. Bind Glue 2. Putty 3. Elephant Glue Which one is better??? Both Putty and Bind Glue can be bought from TM in BTS. |

Not because I want to glue it.. Some part is loosy... means that they are not aligned and little bit hole.... especially the hand part... Then I should just buy elephant glue/super glue and sand it away after dry? Correct? |

QUOTE(erh_teo @ Mar 11 2008, 02:25 PM) actually superglue is abit harder than plastic so it's much more harder to sand after u glue the plastics.. Hmm.. maybe I apply a super thin and flatten it when assembling??with cement.. not much of this sanding issue.. but superglue is much cheaper Nvm, Tonight I'll try and let you guys see the result. Ok, "Glue" part done. I have to ask... What grit of sand paper is best for model kits?? The finer the better or otherwise?? |

QUOTE(fyire @ Mar 13 2008, 11:12 AM) Yes you can. I've been using normal thinner from Ace's hardware with my airbrush all these time, both for thinning the paint, and also for cleaning the airbrush. Normal thinner also can... Maybe I try ask my father to bring 1 tin come back from his factory and try For acrylic paint, they can stick to the plastic actually, its not until that fragile, just that at the spots where u get parts rubbing against one another, that's where u can expect the paint to chip. However if you're to use a primer, then it wont rub off as badly. Won't it do any harm to plastic?? Added on March 13, 2008, 12:14 pm QUOTE(noob4life @ Mar 13 2008, 11:56 AM) Is it viable to use Gunze's Thinner to thin paints, then use industrial thinner to wash the airbrush ? More cost effective. Oh yea one more thing... you guys use gas mask or u guys spray outdoors ? Ima thinking of buying a mask... cuz i cant stand the fumes even with hand painting... QUOTE(fyire @ Mar 13 2008, 12:21 PM) This will depend on how strong the thinner is. That's also why I've stuck with the thinner from Ace's Hardware, as I know how it behaves by now, and what to avoid with it. uh... later i put in, poke poke.. the plastic gone.. xDIf you wanna try the thinner from your father's factory, then I suggest that you test it out on a piece of scrap plastic first. - put a piece of scrap plastic into a small bowl of the thinner, poke it abouts and so forth, and observe how quickly or slowly the plastic dissolves - the do some test spraying and see what kinda results u get Then only found out my father bring acid instead of thinner... ok, no problem... try try first when got chance.. |

:S Looks like i need to go TM to get a design knife jor... No knife... hard to cover the seam lines...
Here's what I always do when assembling. Use cutter to cut the pieces --> Use nail clipper to cut the remaining --> Cement on the place where seam lines will appear after you put 2 pieces into 1 --> Push tight ---> Cement ooze out, use design knife to cut ---> Sand So far correct? |

1. Cement and Assemble
2. Sand 3. Prime / Surface 4. Lining 5. Paint/Airbrush 6. Topcoat 7. Decals 8. Topcoat again. And Topcoat means paint another layer right? How bout those with decals on it? |

QUOTE(z3r0717 @ Mar 19 2008, 12:03 PM) actually 1st step is called pre-assemble(testing snap fit, something like tat) You mean the skeleton first lar u dun nid to cement everything yet depends on the kit.. let's say a HG or NG kit, u nid to paint the inside 1st only the armor rite since got no body frame so if u cement d then susah.. step 4 wrong.. u do panel lining AFTER u paint/AB.. step 6 can skip actually if u wan to save topcoat, it's not compulsory to spray 2 times.. i only do tat on certain kits.. Actually pre-assemble I'm ok with it, only the process afterwards... zzz 1 wrong move, my rare kits gone. Ok, means that 1. Pre-assemble(Sand, cement, etc.) 2. Prime / Surface 3. Paint / Airbrush 4. Lining 5. Decals Above this one more accurate?? Btw, I know sticking decals on kits will result in... sticker seam lines(call this as what ler So topcoat 1 time after decals will hide those seam lines or there's special way? |
