Out of curiosity, what's the use of thinner? I read online its for paint which is too think for airbrushes and cleaning the tools afterwards.

I recently tried to paint a piece of a model which was silver with mr. hobby color chrome silver, but realized that there isn't much difference except for the fact that my brush strokes were uneven. Is it possible to paint thinner on the piece to restore it to its original molded colour?

Also, when cleaning paint brushes, do you dip the brush into the bottle of thinner? Or do you put it in a separate container then dip it in?

Ok, thanx for the insight. Is it possible to paint thinner on to a piece of a model kit which has already been painted in order to restore it back to the original color it was molded in?

I remember reading a while back that by adding a retarder, to the paint(Mr. Color) will allow the brush strokes to be less visible. I was wondering if there's anything wrong with adding some retarder directly into the bottle of paint? Will there be an effect on the paint if I don't use all of it up? Cuz I was thinking of painting a model I bought when I was young(an AMT Enterprise-E) Its partially assembled(the main parts have been assembled but have not been connected). Also note that unlike you guys, I don't prime my models. I normally just paint directly on to the surface.

I was wondering if anyone has had problems drawing panel lines on top of a layer of Tamiya paint(more specifically from the Tamiya spray cans) using the fine tipped Gundam Marker? Is it because of the type of paint? Or is it because the marker is dry? The marker seems to have ink when I tested it on paper. The code of the on top of the spray can was PS-something

I actually asked this before the server went down, so I'll ask it again:

I was wondering if anyone has trouble drawing panel lines on a model which has been sprayed with Tamiya Spray Cans? I can't seem to draw panel lines on the model using the Gundam Marker(for panel lining) When I tried to test draw on the spruce, it can draw, but not on the model it self. The spray I used had the code PS-##(## being the number)

I was looking at the pictures of gundams in the other thread and I was wondering what markers you guys use for panel lining? The lines on those pictures are so dark. Whereas when I tried using a gundam marker on my gundam, it was not very dark

I just opened up my MG Wing Zero and noticed that some the feathers of the wing is made of rubber. Can these feathers be painted/sprayed using Tamiya spray cans?

I was wondering if any of you have used an Action Base 1 for an MG Wing Zero before? Do you know which holder fits it best? (please state the part you used)

I was wondering, when u spray Mr Top Coat Gloss over a model(Strike Freedom) which has already been sprayed with a layer of paint, will the color change? I intend to spray a model using these colors:
Mr. Color Spray #001 Gloss White
Mr. Color Spray #002 Gloss Black
Mr. Color Spray #076 Metallic Blue

or should I use Metallic Black since I'm using the Top Coat Gloss?

Also, what would happen if u sprayed the Top Coat directly onto the Gundam(with no paint)

spray cans kenot overlap each other and the results would not look nice compare to AB becoz it's thick....
TopCoat will not affect ur paint, it just gives a layer of protection and depend wat kind of topcoat. If gloss then gloss effect, if flat then flat effect...

if u spray topcoat onto gundam without paint, it's ok.. let's say u spray flat , then it will look flat lo.. smile.gif

I don't intend to overlap them. I'll just mask the parts so they won't overlap.

Anyone know of model shops which carry Gunze Sangyo spray cans? Previously used to use Tamiya spray cans but I found that Tamiya's Metallic Blue is a bit to light

Just to confirm, does spraying Mr. Top Coat Flat over a gundam with those decals make the decals look more smooth(not sure if using proper work to describe) on the gundam?

TM has them!

Do you know of any other shop which carries Mr Color Spray? The variety of colors that TM carries is somewhat limited. I'm looking for metallic black and metallic blue(The Tamiya Metallic Blue which I have is a little to light)

I was wondering if any of you know how to achieve the effect below? The model is actually done by 99FoxDemon(taken from the work in progress and mecha modelling gallery section)

I would like to know how to make the black parts(in this case, the shoulders and the head) shine like that?

Thanx for the video chriswoo on the compound thing. I read somewhere that you have to have at least 2 to 3 layers of coating before sandpapering the part. Could you confirm this?

Also, in the video, he only sandpapers part of the cockpit. How come he doesn't sand paper the whole part? At 5:48, he shows some kind of bottle with the number 3000 on it. Is that the same as the Tamiya Polishing Compound fine? At 6.10 he puts takes out more white stuff(which is presumably from a different bottle based on the cap)

Watching the video that chriswoo posted earlier again, I realized that he sanded the middle part of the cockpit to get rid of a line in the middle of the cockpit.

Does that mean that the polishing compound can be used without sanding the model?

Does that mean this can work:
layer 1: paint
layer 2: decal
layer 3: top coat
layer 4: polishing compound
and variant 2(assuming I decide not to paint the part but want it to be glossy)
layer 1: decal
layer 2: top coat
layer 3: polishing compound

Does this mean that we do not need to sand paper the part before applying the compound?
