Hitachi's 1TB is 5 platters of 200GB but Seagate's one will be using 4 platters of 250GB. Time well spent on increasing platter density IMO.

speed is not everything in hdd community............
250gb per plater, that's what i'm looking for........i bet the new 250gb 7200.11 member would be a great performer......
wander how the price goes........

according to datasheet.. 7200.11 can spit out over 105MB/s sustained data transfer
hmm.. wow???

Only for a completely sequential data transfer, and that's the max for the outer track. So "sustained" can be quite misleading here if you didn't know what it means. But for that kind of platter density, it's not too surprising that it touches 100MB/s. |

1TB disks are cool, the only problem is current disk controller (SATA/IDE) cannot support more than 2TB disks in total.
Can P35 support disks size more than 2TB in total?

but with higher platter density, i think seek time will somewhat be sacrificed
eg.. like servo positioning? or time needed to aligned the head to the correct tracks due to tighter margins?

i just found out that samsung's F1 series uses 334GB platter
that means 1TB only uses 3 platters.. along with 1.2mill hours mtbf.. putting it along the reliability of enterprise drives

that what i meant earlier in the thread, with higher platter density, it will boost the life span and durability as well.....
too bad samsung is rather rare here
