i just noticed my mobo got one bad cap..
does anyone knows what this cap function for?
should i replace it?
[attachmentid=268515]
*
yes you can. just de-solder the connectors, find a similar capacity (rating in micro farad) capacitor and solder it back on

i fixed a few old mobos that has leaking caps before

Just bought 2nd hnd 14inch monitor last week. Its dead just now, when power swich turned on, LED lighting about 1 second then off back. Thats mean no prob regarding power cable, and nothing to do with the PC.
Q= Can it be repaired?
*
it's cheaper to buy another old one rather than trying to fix it. 14" can be bought for as low as rm 30 (generic) ad rm50 (branded)

hi.. i just curious wit sata hdd... from my experience and some reading here, if
u want to install os in sata hdd, u must install the pre install sata driver from that came with the mobo or (the one that u hav to copy into floppy disk), else ur window wont boot..(im using P965 chipset)

so what im curious how come 2 of my friend dont hav to do the floppy thing, im sure i read the one of the mobo manual and it has pre install sata  driver included the cd( dunno the chipset )... the other one using P35 chipset, oso dont hav  to install the preinstall sata driver, and both pc can boot up with out prob... so0 what the explaination for this..
*
Windows XP SP2 has the SATA driver pre-loaded

SP1 and earlier windows don't

vista has it

you will definitely need the SATA driver to install any kind of windows if you are running in RAID configuration.

*
plug the monitor connection back to the card and restart in SAFE MODE

else yuo need to tinker with the BIOS to enable onboard VGA first (or easier, just plug out the vga card)

A question about external HDD. My friend said that it is best formatted in FAT32 rather than NTFS to create a good ext HDD, is it true? Or NTFS also can, without facing any problem later on?
*
QUOTE(Najmods @ Aug 7 2007, 08:17 PM)
Use FAT32 IF only you plan to plug it to earlier windows like 98, ME etc. If not NTFS will do just fine
*
NTFS can only be read by Windows NT (hence the name NT File System), 2000, 2003, XP and Vista

on linux, unix, mac, etc you need to mount it manually

Win98, ME and older windows version can't read NTFS

and another thing - NTFS permission thingy. you screw it and there goes yuor encrypted data (not that hard to retrieve, but waste lots of time)

FAT32 is acceptable on almost all platform.

QUOTE(Skylinestar @ Nov 21 2008, 09:36 PM)
i have a pc using mobo's onboard NVIDIA 6100 graphic chipset. if i were to add in a dedicated NVIDIA gc (eg: 7300GT or 8500GT), do i have to uninstall my current Forceware driver, then install again? or will the existing driver works since the Forceware driver can support both the chipsets?
*
no need since the driver supports all nvidia chipsets

but if you really are into benchmarking, then it's better to clean uninstall and reinstall it back

either way works. your call

Super noob question....

does usb webcams come with a video processor. I'm refereing to something like processing the feeds to MJPEG on the cam before streaming to the PC

or the PC is the one that does the encoding?

Whats a DVR ... is it a hardware? do i need that to perform this encoding?

Thanks all!
*
nope. the PC will be doing the hard work. the webcam only capture images / video

no, u dun have to have a DVR or use DVR to encode. your cpu will handle it

this is where multi-core cpu shines - video encoding. it's significantly faster than single core procs

QUOTE(Halfhearted04 @ Nov 20 2008, 11:42 AM)
hello here ,, new question ..

do i need to format my C;\ if i to change Mobo ?

using back the same ram, proc, vga everything ..
*
QUOTE(ktek @ Nov 20 2008, 12:21 PM)
not necessary, if new mobo has similar chipset /HDD controller.
*
QUOTE(teamloks @ Nov 20 2008, 12:23 PM)
if u change other mobo or hardware should format it biggrin.gif
*
depends on your OS

Win 95, 98, 98SE and ME, for sure u need to reinstall windows since it's gonna screw up your OS

for Win NT, 2kPro, 2k3, XP, Vista and the likes, you don't have to since they have hardware profiles feature and can do minor changes to accomodate the new mobo (even if it's entirely new mobo)

but BE WARNED. changing new mobo and still using the same Windows OS may violate the EULA. read it carefully if you are using the PC for business. i'm not into legal matters, so i leave it to you

for other OS, i have no idea since i rarely use them

so, in simple words, NO. you DON'T have to format your pc

hello

planning to buy wireless network adapter

any brands/models will do ?
wont have compatibility issues?
*
for starters, try not to mix and match brands. same brands are easier to configure. there won't be any compatibility issues

for reliability, Cisco

Few brands that receive good review, Linksys, Buffallo, dLink,

Just bought a new rig few weeks ago... having sum prob or question... hope to get to know more abt my rig...

Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1
Phenom 9950 BE
DFI DK FXB-MR2SH
Gainward HD4870 512mb
Corsair 1066 4gb Dominator
Gigabyte Odin Pro 800w PSU

So i tried to use AMD OverDrive to clock the proc, but the result wont budge, i can only maximize to 2700ghz...
Cos im still using the stock HSF, should i be able to get more juice from it ?
If i would to change a better 1, which 1 should i get ? couldnt choose from the the product available in the market...

Then abt the ram. i cant seems to be able to make it run at 1066...
Its very unstable, crash most of the time...
But Phenom should be able to support 1066 and the board has the function also...
Mainly, im worry that the PSU is not giving enough power, cos all the unstability of the rig...

Can anyone help me figure out whether is it my PSU not having enough power...
*
have u checked Vista power options? Check if you have properly confured "High Performace" to run 100% of cpu speed

QUOTE(krainsyafiq95 @ Nov 13 2008, 07:14 PM)
what can i do to increase the speed of my acer aspire 4315??
*
you can try to uninstall unnecessary programs. CCleaner is a good start. for advanced stage, try windows xp tweaking softwares that are free and abundant in the net. google is a good friend

QUOTE(ChipZ @ Nov 13 2008, 07:59 PM)
How to find out how much is the max speed/frequency (667MHz or 333MHz) that my laptop's mobo can support up to?

u can use CPUz

QUOTE(ruffaz @ Nov 14 2008, 06:49 PM)
lolx, im going to upgrade to quadcore processor ( from single core ).. but i hav 1 qn here..
are we able to use 4 cores at once ? i mean let say..
program 1 - runs on core 1
program 2 - runs on core 2
program 3 - runs on core 3
program 4 - runs on core 4

if it is possible, how to do that ? =s

does dualcore able to do so too? lol, just to confirm XD
i nv know abt these thingies, bcoz i used my pc since 2005 ( sempron ).. and nv bother to upgrade till now =s
*
yes you can, but it'd be tedious

run the programs you want, and then open Task Manager. Click processes, right click the process name, and set affinity

you're set to go

is it ok to put speaker behind my lcd? will it have any effect?
*
LCD, unlike its old predecessor doesn't use any CRT

so, yes, it's ok. the magnets inside those speakers, even if it's not shielded, won't distort your lcd monitor

if you are using old CRT, then it's a different story

You notice on the cables for Keyboards, Controllers, Phone chargers etc near the equipment on the cable there is this black round rubber thing what is it for?
*
it contains some kind of low power magnet. supposedly to reduce electromagnetic interference

most common problem for dying mobo is leaking capacitors. check your caps and see if any is bulging and start to leak electrolytes

replace with same capacity capacitor (not necessarily same brand). if you wanna go high end, always use rubycon caps

got problem need format need cost RM 50 for pirate version service charge.

contact BSA and you may stand a chance to receive RM 20,000 award. earning money from pirated software is plain wrong.

Hey guys, Im looking to get a new pc. but for now, I'm contemplating on whether to get the  AMD x2 6000+ or the intel E5200.

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of both processors?

I cant seem to get any more infos on the two processors.
*
not to be bias between any brand, but the e5200 has better power management. in term of speed, i have no idea since cpu speed is irrelevant nowadays, save for those hardcore benchmark freaks

QUOTE(prinny101 @ Dec 1 2008, 03:12 PM)

how do I find that out?

no. if you only change the CPU, u don't have to. even if you change the whole computer, u can still use your old windows installation perfectly

QUOTE(hafiez @ Dec 11 2008, 09:08 PM)

btw guys, my noob question is:
is it OK to run Vista Ultimate by using only 2GB 800MHz memory? or i have to upgrade to 4GB?
Im more on gaming, t3h Internet, Burning CDs/DVDs, Watching Movie, Photo Editing.

ram are too cheap. upgrade now and be happy

QUOTE(ruffaz @ Dec 12 2008, 12:52 AM)
vista with 2gb ram, ngam ngam only, better upgrade to 4gb wink.gif

with vista, more memory is always better. but be reminded, vista 32bit can only address 3.5gb. if you need more than that (god knows why), then switch to 64bit vista

why on earth d u need one? PCI wifi cards are abundant. USBs are eaasy to find. no purpose to specifically change mobo just to get built in wifi antennae.
