Hi, currently i am using maxis one prime with unlimited data for home broadband and mobile. I plan to have 2nd line at my parent line for mobile data since maxis speed at 50mbps compare to tm streamyx at 8 mbps only.

Any recommendation for best 4g LTE Modem router?

I would suggest you buy another router to use at your place, and put maxis provided router+dongle at your parents place (change the sim card)

If you need lte backup at your place, just get a router with usb port and supports lte dongle + lte dongle itself

I suggest you check whether your unlimited plan allows hotspot/tethering.

Maxis provided router is not really stable, sooner or later you're gonna want to change it to a better one.

how much is your budget if 4G modem can get huawei if your internet speed is capped plan

get huawei b310 see which type u want. got fews type of this modem. 2x2mimo internal antenna cheap2 4G modem. no wifi 5ghz. so 2.4ghz wifi max speed around 50mbps only... even said modem is support up to 150mbps unless u run under LAN connection.

get b618-22d a bit risky at the modem due to sialcom(rm499) firmware update and telco lock set... lock set mean only can use for sialcom..not suit for others telco. cheap2 <RM1k 100% is sialcom set. wont be oversea set as b618 price still above 1k.

get b618-65d self sign up at tm selected outlet(rm565). modem is unlock can put all sim. best 4G+ modem in the market and it's cheap2 vs others 4g+ modem. 4x4mimo internal antenna signal strong. got 5ghz wifi...

i'm using b618-65 like it. coz using i150 & it have VoLTe too.... got pay expensive for use the unlimited call as well.

used b310, e5186-22a b618 best indoor signal antenna.

why not choose others brand like tp link, tenda come with 3 year warranty?
1. their dont have apps support like huawei hmanager i can see signal strength. ( i can refer and locate my modem in house easy find a good spot with statistic)
2. No Volte support
3. Most IMPORTANT, only huawei modem can lock specific band.. not force 4G. lock band. like digi have b3, b7 and b8. when network area is congested/ tower maintenance, then lock band is most important things for me. only huawei could do this.

Wow. Comprehensive analysis. Tq bro. Budget is constraint looking for rm300-rm500. No capped speed and data. Currently consider tp link and tenda too.

up to user...

for me modem cant lock band i wont buy ald.... ( alots of user know modem also wont buy if cant lock band)
try to explain more simple way about lock band feature example digi got b3,b7 n b8
lock band
1. b3
2. b7
3. b8
4. b3+b7 (if it's 4G+ modem)
in congested area, u have 4 option to do something about the connection speed and stability.

If cant lock band, like hp no rooted. the modem only run auto band, will connect the strongest signal, if all also strong then random pick by modem. hence also might facing auto keep switching winthin band randomly none stop too..haha..then line also flicking la laugh.gif

2nd huawei is more resell value as they can be xxx(censored) haha. for others sim pack like gx30, gx50, YES, n etc unlimited sim but hotspot limit(only tak throught pm) cause is illegal things. laugh.gif

huawei got fews modem
1. b310 many are using 4G modem, 2x2mimo (2.4ghz wifi only)
2. e5186-22a support main telco like d,m,c CA/4G+ (2.4 & 5ghz wifi)
3. b525 4G+ modem, 2x2mimo (2.4 & 5ghz wifi)#
4. b612 not sure support CA/4G+ telco or not, wrote is 4.5G modem. should be 2.4 & 5ghz wifi too, 4x4mimo pretty same like b618 if it's support 4G+

others model rarely being used.

do note that auto band only, unable to lock band.

u will be happy if connected to slow band which aka run single band only..coz of the modem is running auto band only...

like digi b3, b7 n b8. on my b618 auto mode without using hmanager apps to lock 4G+. Everyday start up modem, will be happily assigned auto at b8, which is slowest band network. haha....

i have to lock 4G+, play lock and auto, once auto i seing 4G+ appear on b618. then no need set anymore... that is what lock band function. if auto..good luck buy expensive modem n enjoice b8 speed 5mhz tower laugh.gif
i had to set auto network coz i'm using VoLTE the phone function to call in/out at my phone lol

for my area 4G+ tower digi la
b3 15mhz speed 100mbps
b7 20mhz speed 100mbps
b8 5mhz speed <20mbps, some area just 5mbps only.

hope someone get the meaning of auto & lock band function. all device no matter is hp/modem priority wont be 4G+ notworthy.gif

B310 - 4G modem RM2xx~RM3xx
E5186-22a - 4G+ modem RM4xx
B525 - 4G+ modem RM6xx
B612 - 4.5G modem not sure support CA b3+b7 or not. new model. RM3xx , 4x4 mimo (strong indoor signal)
B618-22d - 4g+ & VoLTE modem RM499(sialcom signup), 4x4 mimo (strong indoor signal)
B618-65d - 4G+ & VoLTE modem RM565(TM self signup), 4x4 mimo (strong indoor signal)

dont ask why 4G+ modem is expensive. u can compare n see your self which is best buy.
e5186 n b525 is retail 4G+ modem price. does't drop much also from last year when heat on using digi i150.

B618 is subsidies telco set priced, 50% from retial price cheaper.
22d variance a bit risky to buy at the moment cause originally is telco lock set and have some firmware issue on latest update.

65d is unlocked originally by tm, not sure they will change or not in future or not.

others brand like tenda, tplink, dlink not recomended. It's advice from modem user/advance user. laugh.gif

Add on to this: Other brands simply don't have the flexibility of Huawei modem such as lock bands and custom firmwares.

If you don't care then you can consider about other brands. They are normally slower too being just up to LTE CAT4.

B7 has only 2 x 10MHz. It requires at least 2X as many base stations to cover the same area as B3. Running at 2.6GHz, it requires more power than even 2.4GHz ISM WiFi band.Investment wise, it is bad strategy for telcos to use this band.

B7 is technically useless for large countries which needs to deploy wide coverage.
It is only useful for in-building coverage and very highly dense areas such as SG or HK used to offload traffic on B3/B5/B8.

Instead of distributing mixed blocks for each Big 3 telco, its better to award large chunks of blocks for each band to each telco.

Example:
2 x 30MHz for B3 FDD
2 x 35MHz for B5 FDD

1 x 60MHz for B40 TDD

etc.

idk... but for my area b7 area much better than b3. in UL term beat b3 very much.

but m'sia telco 4G+ deploy only will have b3+b7. so no matter what they also will be using b7.

b8 wise is very limited and slow speed. and CA is not applicable for b8.

tendah modem price is consider pretty cheap and affordable & with attractive warranty period.

do some survey before u buy it. as 2nd price would be bad/hard to sales off..cause many are using cheap2 internet plan with unlimited data & limited hotspot plan.

that is the only reason why huawei modem is high market demand, due to custom firmware and the special features other modem cant do. laugh.gif

cheap internet plan
1. gx30,
2. gx50,
3. YES 4G RM30 & etc YES unlimited plan

Any modem router that can use unifi mobile prepaid sim card?

Or a combo as streamyx modem would be perfect. Just need a network port connection to upload data files.

Any modem router that can use unifi mobile prepaid sim card?

Or a combo as streamyx modem would be perfect. Just need a network port connection to upload data files.

maybe you can try checking dlink DWR-953

https://www.dlink.com.my/product/wireless-a...r-953/#nf_specs

it have Bands 1/2/3/5/7/8/20/38/40 (FDD: 2100/1900/1800/850/2600/900/800 MHz, TDD: 2600/TDD 2300 MHz)

so unifi is usable on this router ( as i using unifi also before this)

and for streamyx, it also have dialer for pppoe

it also have failover feature, which you can set both sim and wan as load balancer and failover

i have the same situation to setup the 4G router for my second house (no fiber port), mainly there will be 12 devices to be connected, like wifi cctv, wifi printer, ipad, phone, tvbox, laptop or gaming sometime, it is about 40mb-50mb download speed i can get

i have checked out some of the 4g router, i do not know does it plays an important role for dBi gain of the 4G router Antenna?
1. Tenda 4G680V2

3. Dlink DWR953

like digi b3, b7 n b8. on my b618 auto mode without using hmanager apps to lock 4G+. Everyday start up modem, will be happily assigned auto at b8, which is slowest band network. haha....

i have to lock 4G+, play lock and auto, once auto i seing 4G+ appear on b618. then no need set anymore... that is what lock band function. if auto..good luck buy expensive modem n enjoice b8 speed 5mhz tower  laugh.gif
i had to set auto network coz i'm using VoLTE the phone function to call in/out at my phone lol

for my area 4G+ tower digi la
b3 15mhz speed 100mbps
b7 20mhz speed 100mbps
b8 5mhz speed <20mbps, some area just 5mbps only.

hope someone get the meaning of auto & lock band function. all device no matter is hp/modem priority wont be 4G+  notworthy.gif

for digi b3~b7 almost the same.

b8 is slowest..

and need to check congested or not... and see your indoor signal strong or weak... but in term b3=b7

for 20mhz tower UL will be higher than 15mhz tower.

Waterproof outdoor 4G CPE with PoE adapter
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/waterpro...4017518801.html

So you can mount/install your modem outside your house, pull along Ethernet CAT6/5E cable into your room and indoor socket to get better reception.

Should be able to get you decent speeds with single band 4G connectivity around 20M-90M. Goo enough to match 30M-100M fibre plans if you want cheap, contract-less and prepaid mobile plans with lite usage.

The outdoor unit is already a wireless router itself. Inside your house if you want better coverage or more wired ports just hook it up a manageless switch or wireless bridge AP.

Unlocked and modded.

Good enough to match 30M-100M fibre speeds if your area less congested with good signal coverage. No CA support though if you looking for higher speed connections.

Can support 4G TDD operators as well such as Unifi Mobile and YES quota based broadband plans.

After 5 days using it, I can say that I can get higher upload speed as you can see from my speedtest below. So much better than my previous TP-Link M7350

Not sure on how to get the signal to lock but will test it out again.

I’m using Digi prepaid Next with TP-Link MR600(cat6). No restrictions. Most Digi prepaid plans have no restrictions. I bought this router during 12/12 sales. The speed is overall 8-10mbps faster than my old TP-Link MR6400 router(cat4) even during peak hours in the evening. This afternoon’s speedtest 57 mbps, fast.com 77 mbps.
I have no idea how to lock band. Overall I don’t need to lock.

Have a question..

Currently im using maxis wifigo.. With mr600..

But with cellmapper, i can see that my coverage is best under yes 4g band 38/40..maxis tower is abit far.. But okaaayy laa sometimes the speed is 50mbps,most of the time is 10~20mbps

Question is, if say i want to change the band in my mr600, using the custom firmware.. To lock to band 40 ~ as the coverage is 'green' in my area/but its yes 4g tower laa.. Will the maxis sim connect to this band? Or will the sim only connect to band 3/7 because it is a maxis sim?

Asking this before i want to do any changes to my router firmware.. Hehe..

It's advice from modem user/advance user.  laugh.gif

considering to buy B310 here and would like to know more about it.

1. Huawei doesnt have official warranty for these models in malaysia right? I mean for retail-consumer like can walk in to their service centre for warranty claim? So far I saw online mostly warranty from seller. Which is why most of the online seller mentioned "custom/modified firmware" because there's no msia set all imported set? I tried to search on huawei malaysia but could not find related products on their website.

2. Lets say I just take the seller warranty and assume these huawei models are imported set, is there anything for me to take note if I needed to update the firmware? any custom firmware source to recommend?

3. do you know about the speedcap /hotspot bypass hack? works for all telco?

1. yea, huawei offcial malaysia not selling modem. unless is telco broadband set then those u may have warranty. mostly seller selling is seller personal warranty or shop warranty. unless they know how to fix/they send back to china to fix. M* not allowed to talk in chat. haha...

2. import set not really matter if u want to upgrade the firmware when there is new update coming. but i doubt there is new firmware anymore on some specific old model.

3. not allowed to talk. haha.

I tried using a prepaid YES 4G SIM card in a non-locked 4G modem which supports TDD Band 38/40.

It seems it doesn't like to detect that you use it with some fixed modem, after a few attempts of speed test your speed will somewhat be throttled to below 50M to prevent you from wasting quota to do unproductive speed tests that might hog their network resources similar to Maxis where they want to prioritize network stability and consistency over bragging unstable speed test results.

Using a quota based prepaid plan by the way so tethering and placing sim here should be allowed since I'm paying for every allocated GB of transfer data.

When choosing for modem, no need for the LTE-A CA feature. You don't need to bind bands here and CAT 4 LTE devices are more than enough to support upto 150Mbps speeds.

On average their throttling mechanism will push down your speeds to somewhere 30-50Mbps so that everyone can enjoy decent speeds around your area.

That day when I visited a YES store at a local mall, I saw they had some unbranded 4G access point installed on the wall to provide their office behind with internet connectivity.

The modem has a "China Telecom" logo on it laugh.gif

It's pretty much the same stock as those OEM China 4G modems/wireless routers sold at Shoppe and Lazada where you can buy at prices below RM150 per unit.

Hi all sifus.

Currently I'm staying in a rented room and got the worst signal...

Tried with Umobile, YES, Hotlink, Celcom and got the following:
Total 5 bar:
- 4G: 0 or 1 or 2 bar
- H+: 1 or 2 bar

Internet connection keep on and off... Can't Zoom at all...

With those 4G Modem Router mentioned in the thread. Does it help to get better signal?

If yes, then plan to get one of the modem and get maybe Unify Prepaid or UMobile GX or etc...
If no, anyway to overcome the situation?

No Fibre or Streamyx as I don't have the port.

Thanks in advance  notworthy.gif

What did u used to test the signal?
Depends on the bands u have support on that device.

These modems are unmodded so you won't be able to bypass the Postpaid hotspot sharing restrictions which makes them all legal to begin with. I still pay by the quota on my prepaid plan and seldom use it ended up placing in a spare Motorola phone instead. It's sometimes perform even better than those Huawei or branded ones because the chipset used in them are from Qualcomm or Marvell which are western based firms.

YES buys these modems from some Shenzhen based Chinese OEM factories on the cheap and they are selling them to you for hundreds stamping their brand on it?
Who's doing a scam now?

They themselves were caught using unbranded routers as APs in their own YES shops with "China Telecom" logos on them what do you mean about fines?

Do you know that more than 90% of our modems and CPEs are all made in China today? If it's not the design and patent, almost every individual electronics component that is in them are from China?

hi guys, noobie here. very close to moving date to my new place in subang. landed, tried applying to maxis/unfii both also say port full.

looks like going 4g LTE is the only way but i have not used any 4g LTE broadband before.. can you guys point me in the right direction?

i would like to go for unlimited broadband. so far i only saw maxis one go and unifi air. any better options?
also i dont trust maxis' RM1 router plan, i could be wrong. anyone with experience with their ZTE router?

if need to get own router which would be a good choice. would there be any good choice for RM300 below?

thanks for the help smile.gif

Hi all,

I am using mr600 with unifi air. Do you think getting the b818 will speed up my Internet connection speed even further or it should be more or less the same since mr600 is a 4g+ cat6 modem already?

Thanks.

Guys any review on CPE modem?

Recently want to put 1 4G modem in my hometown which is not supported by fibre. So i have 2 option either 8mbps streamyx or using 4G modem.
I read some 4G basically it depend on mimo and also band it support.
I saw thread about huawei modem can lock their band in the mobile apps, so i thinking which huawei modem is recent and value for money?
Since 5G era going to come, i think perhaps i should not purchase heavy top end model like B618 and B818. Any other thought than this 2 model?

does this mean, since mr6000 dont have mimo it will be not possible to achieve 4G+ using unifi air because unifi must use CA?

I need advice if I should get 4G modem for my usage. Have been struggling with the issue since I have stuck at my wife's kampung for half a year since the pandemic.

I am currently on Maxis Postpaid with 60GB data/month. I applied for Multi-sim, so the second card is installed on my spare old phone (oppo F1 Plus) and 24 /7 plugged in with wifi tethering turn on to provide wifi to my laptop + main Iphone 12 (reason being signal in my room is weaker directly from my iphone compare to using the wifi tethering that was put outside the room)

The result is a mixed bag. I get 1-2 bars of 4g, occasionally drop down to 3g, at times will be completely no mobile data (until I have on /off flightmode to force it back to 3g/4g) .

Recently I think i probably burned my wifi-tethering phone... It gets so hot that , the phone was unable to charge itself as the warning pop up saying the phone is overheating. And the speed I got from it now are so bad , that I end up using wifi tethering from my main iphone most of the time.

I tried to find a suitable 4g modem to replace my "abused phone" , but lazada/shopee has a lot of these "MODIFIED UNLIMITED" 4g modem, which I do not understand... it sounds like they are "illegal" and works only with Prepaid unlimited?

Anyway , I do not need illegal unlimited data, as 60GB is sufficient enough for me to use casually. But my question will be, if getting the 4g modem (with powerful long antenna) will it helps with the reception of the 4g speed/ stability? And if so, which model will best recommended , without the need for me to overspend..

1) mod the router, try to search for your huawei model
2) get openvpn/wireguard installed if router supported (for maximum speed if you’re using those rm35-40 unlimited with 3mbps caps) and search shopee for those unlimited speed server account login
3) that’s it really

Thanks a lot sir.

So after 2 years. This model is still the best budget for the range

Can I ask if my area internet line is horrible (I must always sit at the balcony to get line and bedroom literally no line), will router helps to boost up reception?

It says

Using a router instead of a wireless device helps conserve batteries on the device itself and helps create more robust Internet access. The connection sharing process typically requires a router that allows for tethering and a useable USB port.

How much better is the internet using a router vs using a mobile hotspot?

Does it help in my case above?

Wow CAT12 Router for RM219?! Serious?!
I changed from MR-100 to Tenda 4G09 Cat6 router and it’s considerably faster and much more stable. Wifi coverage also better. At 23rd floor in a busy town I’m pulling about 5-15mbps day time and faster at night. Good enough to dota without DC 🥵
For portability I got another Huawei cat6 modem from Andrews estore.

Syukur my fibre is fixed. And waiting for Time to open port in my condo. So no need new modem for now. Hopefully…….

yes. i guess those unit are from uk telco unlocked router, it's a bargain.

not many will buy this zte router because not popular here, that's why selling cheap here.

i am using this same router but supplied from maxis (maxis firmware strip all the features to barebone), but the performance is quite good, can do 3CA.

Just use any conventional router with USB port. Get a 4G LTE dongle & plug it into the USB port.

Turn off the wifi feature of the dongle (if any).

Any recommendation for a portable 4g router? Needs to be able to use battery or powerbank as I'm usually on the go when livestreaming.

Currently on digi and rs850 and getting packet loss during zoom, not reliable at all.

Bought CPE C300 4G router from Shopee seller. It worked reasonably well although the control UI was not as good and user friendly as Huawei.

Like:
The modded bypass worked fine so no hotspot quota was eaten away. Lightweight design.

Dislike:
Already died in Feb 2023 (cannot power up even with different USB cable). Bought in June 2022. Just checked purchase history and it’s no longer under warranty. Even if it does, expect too much hassle to get cooperation from the seller. The web UI is quite buggy and not consistent. No app management unlike Huawei where apps can be downloaded from iOS and Google playstore. The USB power connection could easily dislodge due to inherent design of mini USB itself.

Yeah that one has 5G/LTE/WiFi 6, can even use as main modem with 5G/4G as backup. I know it's expensive but I think it's a better investment than these like small brands 5G/LTE capable devices https://mikrotik.com/product/chateau_5g_ax

It's definitely not for him, but for me at least with a decent feature set it's a worth while investment I feel like drool.gif

Not concerned about my main house but more for remote, when I'm away from my parents'. Currently only fibre is feasible here since all signal for telcos is shit here, due to some geographic issue bla bla from Digi rep. So on the go would be my main concern for usage notworthy.gif

You need to find out which telco can provide best service that area. Then get the antena type with sim inside

Will try out the coverage with prepaid and see which works, but most likely gonna go with Unifi with their packages rclxms.gif
