I'm currently self learning SEO, learning all the theory online

Still, I am unable to fully understand unless I practice it,

Just wonder what platform/software is free? So far I know SEMrush but it needs to pay sad.gif

I think the best way to start is to perform SEO audit on certain website [?]

There are free SEO software out there but it all depend on what you want to do as a SEO professional.

You may get software for any of the following:
Technical SEO;
On-page SEO; and
Off-page SEO.

You may also learn few more things about Strategies for SEO in business.

not really. Those SEO tools just preset. You can do it on your own to your website unless you really lazy. Then use Google Search Console to assess and analyze.

I personally use Ahrefs.com to grow my blog. It's really powerful, like having a second Google in your hands. Thing is it is a little bit expensive. I pay RM400 per month for it.

My website is HUSTLR. Check it out. I write primarily for Americans, and SEO is a key traffic channel for all of my businesses.

the main point for SEO is to know what audience will search for at google search, right? to direct them to our website.

that is correct. Knowing what kind of content is your audience looking for is important as well. SEOs call this search intent.

Paid tools that are powerful but expensive:

Ahrefs
SEMRush

As beginner I don't think you'll need all those data

Personally I'm using KWFinder from Mangools. Decent enough data to start keyword research and backlink analysis. Much cheaper entry price point compared to the usual.

Can check it out here, they have 10 days free trial. Keyword Finder from Mangools

SEO tools are pretty essentials for your research purpose, make your life easier when come into competitor analysis and backlink building.

However, free tools and basic usage like ubersuggest, google search console, google analytics, google keyword planner and etc helps by giving you more insights about keywords, your audience behaviour and more for you to improve your website based on those data.

Personally, for starter, you can try using the free tools until you had mastered most of the SEO techniques and required reports for your website performance (maybe client need it by the time) then suggest to go for paid tools.

The cheapest - Mangools
The best so far (I been using, slight more expensive & more features) - Ahrefs
