By now you must have read about the recent blow receive by Huawei – the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer. As Huawei found itself with very few options to deal with the situation, it’s apparent that the best alternative for the company is to launch its own operating system the company has been working on for years now.
According to the sources of HuaweiCentral, the new OS of Huawei is all set for debut. Named as Hongmeng – the new OS from Huawei could get no better launch opportunity than now when all eyes are set on the next move of Huawei after getting banned by Google to use Android.
If you are among the few ones who have no clue about the recent debacle with Huawei, then this must surprise you – Google has suspended the license of Android for Huawei. The chinse manufacturer can no longer release new smartphones with Android OS. You can read more about Google’s decision and possible effects on Huawei’s market in our previous deep dive.
The sources have informed that Huawei was working on Hongmeng since 2012. The company has been testing the new OS on selected devices under closer door and closed environment. It’s also been told that Huawei anticipated the move last year and accelerated the development & testing process to make Hongmeng ready for market for the situation like this.
I'm willing to bet they don't have a complete polished OS to use. They're just announcing this as a tactic of giving assurance the company is not in big trouble.

Many sophisticated apps use Google services behind the scene. They are not the bare bone JavaScripts taken from a website. Most developers are not going to spend effort cater to 5 percent of the users who decide to get a phone that runs another operating system.
It depends on how much pain Trump wants to cause, and how much fun Xi wants the world to have together with the two countries. It most likely will end up like the ZTE case, with a fine, a payment, or some compromises. Then everything is back to usual. Or the services can still be used, but not officially configured by Huawei, in which case may be Huawei loses 30 percent of international customers. Or the services can only be installed by customers, in which case Huawei may lose 70 percent of customers. Or a completely incompatible operating system, or even if with partial compatibility, 90 percent of the Huawei customers may switch to other vendors. Then it can just leave the international market and stay within China......

Hong Meng compounds hong 鴻 "wild goose, swan; vast, great" and meng 蒙 "covered; ignorant (esp. in childhood), untutored; encounter, receive; (Yijing) Hexagram 4". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Meng
Now all around of you as is covered by a veil; but this veil will soon disappear, and the world again will get for you clearness. Now your nerves are strongly loosened, therefore try to not accept hasty decisions. Soon all will change. If wish to become successful - do not neglect councils of friends, the heads, ponder upon them. Give more time to dialogue with children. Do not despond. Already there are the new plans, new prospects, but for new love time has not come yet. Gather; also concentrate will on performance of the one and only desire. http://the-iching.com/hexagram_4
Quite meaningful and related to the Huawei current situation.
If there's no YouTube, gmail etc I will surely change my phone.. Not gona use China apps like weibo, baldu, we chat.. Hell no.. Some apps are part of life and hence we can never let go or find replacement..
No one will port their apps to an unknown platform. This Huawei boss better talk nicely to Google for solution. If not, they can kiss goodbye to their overseas market for good.
Meanwhile, some users will find ways to flash AOSP onto Huawei devices. It will be a clean platform with no crapware from Huawei. Slowly add back Google apps manually.

You sure can port AOSP? I thought Huawei ald locked the bootloader?
Bukan Huawei je nama buruk, most Chinese companies memang ugly names. Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo. Previously Xiaomi using the Mi branding is okay enough. Then suddenly they change all FB name back to Xiaomi. It is fkin ugly.
