Not just harrier. New modern cars that has high compression in combustion chamber needs fuel that can resists pre ignition. So anything with 97-100 would be ideal. It is not that those engines cannot run 95 fuels. But the engine will not perform at optimum thats all.

you can always choose not to use ron97..if you planning to sell the car within 5 years time
repairs + maintenance will cost a lot more if you don't take care of your engine properly...just my 2cents |

QUOTE(MasterConfucion @ May 22 2019, 12:21 PM) Car price is an issue since Gov makes non local brand cars expensive. Like 200% more expensive. If you can buy any car at that inflated price, Petrol price is the least of your problem. |

If your car can use Ron 95 without knocking Ron 97 does nothing for your car. It will not make your engine perform more optimally.

driving glc43 no issue at all using ron95, just slightly less powerful compared to 97 ( maybe due to my brain issue telling me 95 is less powerful )

Tried already.
Driving Exora Turbo , running all the while ROn 95 then one day, itchy fingers pump 30 Litres of RON 97 just to try the feeling of RON 97 going up Genting and drive hard. End result? Stick back to RON 95. Not much difference. FC also not any better. So if you are talking about Harrier turbo version, which uses the 8AR-FTS turbo engine, same as Lexus IS200T and NX200T, its stated below that it can run on RON 95 (below is for US market,so have to convert AKI 91 = RON 95 here) This is the official online Lexus octane requirements. https://lexus2.custhelp.com/app/answers/det...exus-vehicle%3F (Refer to NX200T model, same turbo engine as Harrier) This post has been edited by SleeplessEyes: May 22 2019, 07:52 PM |

QUOTE(MasterConfucion @ May 21 2019, 10:47 PM) Is it harrier need lump Ron 97? He say 95 ok but will not perform efficient. Depends on car. If the engine is designed or specified to use RON97 then you will get performance on RON97. If your engine is optimized for RON95, then using RON97 will not gives you anything extra. Waste of money. How about other luxury? Is he talk true? Modern car engine has knocking sensor that enable car using RON97 to use RON95, but you will lose some performance and probably use a bit more fuel for some mileage loss. You can refer to this article for relation between compression ratio and fuel octane rating. Remember that the octane rating here is the US rating which is not the same as in Malaysia. http://www.huntsmachine.com/383ss01p3.html For comparison between octane rating, you can refer here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating |

QUOTE(KeringSinkie @ May 22 2019, 11:07 PM) lol at all those saying 97 got effect on car compare to 95 US aki rating is not the same as our octane research ron rating, their 91 premium is more or less equal to our RON 95a lot of western countries or 1st world country using 92 as "common", 95 as "premium" because malaysia is oil production country, thats why our fuel quite "atas" to answer whether yoiur harrier needed RON97,refer back to your manual, its very rare that a non performance passenger car is incompatible with regular RON fuel, most modern car had knock sensor which retard/advance the ignition automatically in response to different type of fuel This post has been edited by Valentino46: May 23 2019, 04:18 AM |
