For the past 5 years, I have been going to 'smaller' gyms near my house, those that are above shop lots area. Since I graduated and started working full time, I've been thinking of going to more atas gym like celebrity fitness/Anytime fitness.
But those atas gyms are also further away from my place, at least 15 minutes drive. Am I dumb for going to a gym that far away? Anyone have problem persisting driving 15 mins 4-5 days a week to gym?
Would like to hear some opinions since these gyms will most likely tie me to 1 year subscription

nothing wrong with your thought. atas gym can give u more motivation to workout because of the environment & people. they have more facilities and workout classes too.

Yeah exactly what I thought. My gym mostly uncles... Not that I don't enjoy going there. Just that I think would be more fun to go to gyms with more working class people like me and maybe expand my social circle. But long drive seems like a hurdle at the moment. Most people just few minutes away from theirs

The shoplot gyms in my area is full of hardcore bodybuilders. With one of them being particularly full of (i'm assuming) roided out jocks. I'm working out in an atas gym because it's just next to my office, but i really miss those shoplot gyms. People are way friendlier and more motivating, but equipment wise not enough la. The gym i'm at everyone are just so stuck up and it's impossible to make conversations.
Dude, its up to you to drive 15mins for more 'atas' gym or go nearby gym to quickly finish it. This is no question to ask someone else.
I think 'smaller' gym ppl more friendly and got etiquette better than 'atas' ppl who go squat rack to curl, never put back weights, keep playing phone while sitting on bench, waste time chatting or picking up girls and mirror every set
The gym that I go to is just under 5 mins walk from my house currently but since I'll be moving closer to my office next month, I'll have to travel half an hour everytime I wanna go to the gym.
Took me few sec to reach my gym, next to my bedroom.
I have been ghetto gym, atas gym.
ghetto gym cheap but ugh the sweat smell, the temperature especially during noon. best place for abang sado
Atas gym only feel atas on non peak hour. Premium price, During peak hour, still need to wait for rack, machine especially when there is a group of 5, doing "back workout", occupying the lat pull machine for 1 hour, each person 5 sets, 3 pull exercise. /winliao

as long as able to achieve your dream body there nothing wrong with it, if you willing to drive longer i have a friend who drive about 45 minutes to gym with me. because he feel this gym is more comfortable for him to workout
Idk about social aspect. Usually when I see actual pro, not abang sado, they train solo. Go in, lift, go out, no bullshitting, no occupy 1 machine for 1 hour, focus. If you like social, go crossfit gym.
Don't chit chat 10min between sets, people are waiting, just don't
been going to CF since 2015. 15 minutes walk from parents house.
now moved to own house which is 10 minutes drive from parents house, 30 minutes walk if directly to gym
can opt to use MRT feeder bus or rapidkl that stops directly at 1u. if don't feel like driving.
there's a ghetto gym nearby, but no squat rack and using cheap (definitely less than 20kg) barbell. blacklisted the place after trying out for 1 month during previous ramadhan

It's less than 5 minutes walk for me, I think that what it's really important anyway. Just to make something good out of that I can really even go to there when I have a dinner on my job do the tasks then eat a bit and be really good afterwards .
