Just like my grandfather smoke and drink and dont know the word cholesterol. No bodycheckup ever. lived until 93.

You go ask doctor see how many will suggest you live that way.

But I'm sure thats the correct way,... cause it worked for him... right?  cool2.gif

That is different thing la. Biologically, the effect is different from one person to another. Some people internally heal faster than the other. My grandfather was a heavy smoker too but lived until over 100.

The use of semi-syn is not my assumption. It was recommended by car manufacturer. So, why suddenly it become full syn for 10k when it was ok with semi-syn last time. The quality of engine degraded? innocent.gif

Okay, thank you all for your advice!

So currently since I am using Mineral oil, should I go the full 5000 km or change according to the date (whichever comes first)?
*
There are no right or wrong...but its recommended for "whichever comes first".

As for myself using semi-sync or even fully sync i change every 10K so roughly once every 6 months.

Been using my car for about 6 years already never done any major service or anything at all. just change engine oil (not even change gear oil at all).
So far touch wood still running good (no breakdown) but performance wise, i think fuel consumption getting higher now compared to last time.
last time full tank can get 500KM (if i remember correctly) or more, now 400KM only

Hi LYN,

I just wanted to know if I was overpaying or being cheated  confused.gif

I'm using a 2008 Myvi 1.3 around 14x, 000km mileage.

Just sent it for servicing and my mechanic is using GTX M-TEC 10W30 and he told me the next service (major) is after 5,000 KM or 3 months, whichever comes first. Is that normal to be so little?  shakehead.gif

My total bill for my recent service was around RM 150 - RM 155

Rather reasonably price, assuming .... let's say RM110+ for oil, RM20+ oil filter and RM20 for labour.

This is the breakdown of the bill :

GTX M-TEC 10W30 4L - RM 99.6
Oil Filter - RM 15
Drain Plug Washer - RM 2.5
Labour - RM 35

Total : RM 152.1

How much would it cost roughly if I were to send my car to the SC? confused.gif

About the same price.

However, some service center will ask you to do unnecessary thing such fuel cleaner, washer fluid, filter magnet etc. Anyway you can always reject them.

If you don't know much about car, it is best to send local brand car to SC, and always follow the service schedule/items from the service booklet.

follow according to your manual.
if it says - 5000km or 3 months whichever comes first..

the word - Which ever comes first.

if cannot change early.. then change to semi.. can drag up to 7k (this is my recommendation, max 7k) or 6 months

I don't use my car for Grab, just personal driving, roughly 1,000 km plus a little a month?
What I meant by 'over charge' was actually do I need to service it as frequently as the mechanic recommends?

By using semi synthetic, does it mean my car can last longer before it needs to be serviced?  confused.gif

You do need to service it every 3 months as the mechanic recommends. In general wear and tear of car parts in your engine bay comes from engine heat. The better lubricant you use, the better the heat is controlled. This will save you tons of maintenance $ in the long run. I learned my lesson the hard way to realise this.

'10W30' lubricant sounds right. Don't go to p2 SC as they use lubricant meant for new cars. For cars > 5 years, use better ones (like the one ur mechanic use). I'm using Castrol GTX too but I'm not sure if it's exactly the same as urs...mine costs around RM60.

Thank you for your advice. Since I drive roughly 1,000KM a month, I thought of hitting my 5,000KM mileage (5 months) first instead of sending it in 3 months.
Is that pushing it too far? blink.gif

10w30 is for life span of 5k to 7k km.
if you are using 10w40, it can last till 10k max.
price is ok including labor charge....

This is quite average cost. If you send to P2 SC they will charge u cheaper for engine oil depends on which option you take, last I heard P2 works with Petronas engine oil (as per PaulineTan).
