Royal Brunei Airlines, BWN - LHR (London Heathrow), BI 003

At 14 hours 30 minutes flight time, this is the longest route from south east Asia to London Heathrow. The next longest would be that of Philippine Airline, flight PR 720 from MNL to LHR with travel time of 14 hour 10 minutes.

Brunei airport is small. From check in desk through immigration then security and finally to the gates, take less than 10 minutes. Perhaps, from my experience, it was 6 minutes.

As Brunei airport terminal is quite small, passengers who transit via Brunei for London, especially those from Melbourne will find it very easy to transfer as the gates are located around the circular-shaped airside section.

Brunei regulation requires those who carry power bank (portable battery) to store it into resealable transparent bag, like that of LAGs (Liquid, Aerosol, Gel). Similarly, RB discourages passengers to charge their phones by power bank. Instead you will be asked to charge it via USB port on your seat.

- Service is very good, food is passable, in-flight entertainment okay but cannot be compared to EK, MH, TG
- One thing that is very much needed is WiFi as this is their flagship service
- Flight experience was very comfortable along the journey, as even though the flight was 14 hours 30 minutes long, there was no turbulence encountered
- Flight price of RB is quite competitive, KUL-BWN-LHR was priced at USD 375 (one way), while return trip was priced slightly above USD 500
- Not perfect, but as long they offer relatively competitive fare, one may try RB...though they need WiFi

Nowadays Qatar and Emirates are not one of the cheaper option sad.gif

At the time of booking, Emirates was RM 850 more compared to Royal Brunei.

My main gripe is that this flight has no WiFi, considering this is their flagship route on new plane (787).

MH, Thai, SQ all has WiFi for flights to London.

Have RB sorted out their engine issues on their 787s?
Also RB is one of the first airline to introduce 787 so their planes aren't really new anymore.
Most of them are around 5-6 years old.

One of the worst airports in ASEAN, if not the most boring!

BWN is really boring, food option on the airside is very limited. Landside is average, ok.......KFC, Burger King are there.

WiFi is indeed limited to an hour a day. If you happen to be at the landside, you may pay for private WiFi laugh.gif

Most airlines do not offer complementary WiFi, normally it is paid (100 MB option is the most common one).

80% actually.

Most of the passengers were from Australia and UK. Some were from Malaysia, especially those from Sarawak.

There was even an Ethiopian family.

tbh i prefer MH over brunei airlines, price comparison, i flew business from KUL to NRT and it was around RM8k on MH, Brunei it would had cost me about RM14k and service for business class in Brunei airlines is lacking, seats are disappointing, drinks menu so limited i usually don't consume alcohol on flights but having the option is good.

With B787 and A350, spending more than 12 hours on a single flight is getting common.

Philippine Airlines Manila - JFK service, using A350 does that route taking 15 hours 35 minutes.

and with some airlines having two different types of planes in their fleet, guessing which one will fly at what time is like russian roulette. LAst time i frequently used SQ for business trip to US, some legs they use boeing, other times airbus. If you get lucky, it will be airbus, but if you get boeing, have to bear with the cramped out economy seats sad.gif

In ASEAN, only 3 airlines operate both A350 and B787.

Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and Vietnam Airlines.

MH, Philippine Airlines operate only A350.

RB only B787.

Garuda does not order either A350 or B787, but opted for A330neo, which does fly longer range than current A330, but not as long as A350.

either etihad or emirates is free (cant remember which one). but when you try to use it, its like using dial-up internet. have to wait 10 mins for half page to load coz you are sharing probably just 1 modem among all passengers. so its practically, unusable.
