Yes, please seperate the males from the females. I no longer rear hamsters but i bred a fair few for my friends back during the initial craze in the 90s. Some aggresive females will attack the males.
IIRC correctly I fed cheese to the nursing females as well.

Once the babies start running around the cage you can start to familairize them to humans. This way they won't bite as they grow older... do this by getting a plastic aquarium, let them play inside and put one of your hands in (i.e. read or watch tv with one of your hands in the aquarium)... flick them softly if they choose to nip!
