Freedom of speech should be upheld in the best interest of Malaysians, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
“For a better Malaysia and in the best interests of the people, freedom of speech should be upheld in a mature democracy,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Friday (May 10).
His Facebook post came after he attended a live TV programme on NTV7 with Deputy Speaker Nga Kor Ming, in conjunction with Pakatan Harapan’s first anniversary of taking over Putrajaya.
Dr Wee said although he was interrupted several times by Nga when he was talking, he sees a healthy development and a mature political culture when representatives of the government and the opposition can openly discuss and debate current issues.
"Before the programme, the two anchors told us that each panellist will be given two minutes to answer the questions.
“But, Nga still interrupted, maybe he could not stand it when he listened to my arguments,” he said.
