Corn cob, if you do not change the bedding once a week, it will start to grow mold.... like when you put the bread too long, it got those ugly fuzzy green black fungus grow? That can happen to corn cob.

It is better than woodshavings but why not add a few ringgit and get bedding that is better than corncob?

but i bought a big packet alr how?throw away?any suggestion on which bedding to buy?my hamster died today dunno y..i am so sad..yest still playing cheerfully but today morning die liao..dunno is it bcoz of the corn cob...

Well, you won't really know if it is the corn cob that was the cause unless you do an autopsy on your hamster.

The corn cob can be used... but you should change the bedding once a week to be safe that no mold grows. I have used before corn cob, never had any death before..... all also ok. Read the 1st page for bedding suggestions by Reanne. She did a review on bedding and we already mention quite a few times on which suitable bedding to use. Read up.

Can. All hamsters can be toilet train. Just take time hahahha.... I got 4 campbell dwarf, they always pee and poo in their sand bath..... 1st day put, they will roll in the sand to groom their fur... then later the week, keep pee inside. Now I no need change wood shavings everyweek LOL, just change the sand.

I would like to ask a noob question... I am curious about why certain hamsters have red eyes and why certain hamsters have normal black eyes? Is red eye'd robo's common or normal? unsure.gif

If you are worried they chocked on the corn cob you can always use a grid or mesh on top of the cobs, so that they cant eat it. Hamsters tend to stuff things in their mouth...

If the corn cob dry, it won't mold. It only becomes moldy when wet.

Yes, pee and poo. The pooping only happens inside once awhile, of course hamsters would poop wherever they like.

Red eyed robo? No.... there is no such thing yet. Roborovski is still one of the species that is still keeping it's signature wild look.

Winter Whites and Robos have no red eyes.

Only campbells and Syrians for they have been bred to gain particular colour. The red eye comes from a recessive gene.

Most petshops have no knowledge. The supplier hands them hamsters, they just take and sell. If you ask them if Syrians must be kept in pairs, they would say "Of course, later no sex no fun, then die lonely" But the true fact, Syrians are happy alone and will fight till injure or death if in groups or pairs.

What was the colour of the robo?

Small, all dwarf hamsters are small when young. Petshops normally sell young hamsters but when it is older, you will notice the true size. Robos do not have the dorsal stripe on their backs, they can come in only agouti and white-face colour. No other colours available in the world that is for sale in petshops. There is the odd platinum robo but no breeder in Asia would have it since not many people here have the genetic knowledge nor the right robos with the right genes to breed this.

Never believe a petshop, some of them just lie for the sake of you buying and they make money out of it.

The normal price for a Robo is about Rm20 to RM25... but at some places, it can go up to RM40. Again, this depends on location. A Syrian can cost RM10, RM20 or Rm48.... all coz of location and also seller.

today i see my hamster... sad.gif

his backbone hunchback already... cannot bend straight... so he is having trouble passing thru his house door coz his 'hump' will get stuck at the top of the door....
i've noticed he is covered with a few ants... somewhat waiting for the time when they can defacate him....
his eyes barely opens...
he walk barely 5cm and topples over....
he cant control his footwork movement anymore... even climbing into his litter tray (which is 2cm high) also can fall down....
his skin somewhat looks like bleeding... those red spot u often see in old folks skin.... those exposed skin la....

i've speaked to my mum about it... she ask me to send to vet to be put down... i'm not sure though... i thought jz let him die naturally... but he seems like suffering now....
