Kindness is rarely rewarded.
This is the kind of man, I'll bring to Mars.

What use would he be? hmm.gif

Let's assume this is serious. You need specialists if you want to colonize another planet. Horticulturists. Medical specialists. Engineers.

You don't need someone who is baik hati but has no skills other than to park your Mars buggy.

There's bunch a dozen of that.
But not many with a golden heart.
But thanks for making my point that kindness and good deeds often go unappreciated in today's society.

Nope, wrong

There are many people with supposed "golden heart" who in actual fact cause society more problems

This case is a perfect example, this guy has kindness in his heart but is functionally useless and an unsustainable leech on society's resources. The people who are really providing the food are the ones who are contributing to society, but he gets the glory

(So this indeed proves your point)

A Mars mission won't need dead weight like this. Everybody has to be capable of providing significant help to the community. The community can't spare resources on useless people, much less useless people who take the food of others to breed useless pests.

And any ethical or social system which would glorify such an act, is really in need of re-examination. Cause that's just a recipe for disaster.

Sickens me to the bone with that kind of mentality and superior judgement on people values.
Any human is no lesser than an engineer or a doctor.
How much harm can a poor person do when compared to a corrupt businessman, an evil tyrant, an unethical doctor? In peaceful times, you rate success and values on titles and rank, when you're being oh so forgetful of the times when soldiers and hard labours help carry and protect the nation. The poor can do deeds just as important as the rest you're just too ignorant to see anything beyond social status.

Why does your mind jump to these words?

Social status - who's talking about social status here? Nobody.

Titles and rank - who's talking about title and rank here? Nobody.

"Any human is no lesser than..." - this is a sweet and well-meaning notion, but impractical in terms of work.

The hard truth is that an engineer and a doctor contributes more to society than a labourer. This is because their work can benefit many hundreds of people whereas a labourer can only benefit a small number - barely even just himself.

For example, Malaysia has a doctor to general population ratio of 1:600. If 1 doctor stops work, 600 people go without medical care.

You say "the poor can do deeds just as important as the rest". I emphasise the "CAN". Yes they CAN do it. But until they DO do it, they are functionally useless.

In fact you yourself instinctively understand this, when you say "How much harm can a poor person do when compared to a corrupt businessman, an evil tyrant, an unethical doctor". You recognise that some people have more effect on society than others.

Lemme elaborate a bit more then.
If an unethical doctor tells his patients to stop taking medicines but instead go for highly controversial alternwtive treatment, that would be a big cause of death for a big number of people wont they? How bout unethical architects who design unsafe structures, which could lead to hundreds of deaths? There's also engineers who fail to admit their flawed designs which could again lead to potential deaths by the hundreds. So bear that in mind when you think goodhearted people have no impact on the society as a whole.
Of course the poor can perform, but you taking that sentence literally seems kinda stupid. Am I just talking about the poor in the present? Or do you suppose it would mean poor people in general, past, present and future? Its just silly that you actually assume that. Fuck me. So your examples of respectable professions are proven and have proven their worth whereas my example of the poor hasn't? Seems kinda convenient to just say our labors and those majority working in B40 range are worthless. Just get off your high horse and learn to respect people.
