Argentina's squad is not 'average' by any means. check out the roster, they are going out almost full force there :

Uruguay pretty hard to cause an upset (Forlan factor), maybe Venezuela can do it. Home team.

IMO I think Argentina will stand a better chance to win the cup. They have a perfect full squad playing this time. Hopefully Tevez+Messi will be in their starting eleven, gonna be damn nice watching both of them play. smile.gif

Id want an Argentina-Uruguay final, with the Albiceleste winning (of course ) 3-2 or something, with Forlan and Crespo on the scoresheet atleast once.

Is probably going to be Crespo's last major tourney with the team...he's going to be the golden boot for this tourney. I just cannot wait. tongue.gif

Brazil always good with second stringer team...dont underestimate brazillian second stringer....look the example of last copa america, brazil using second stringer team for tournament and they win : although thru penalties.

Quality first goal from Castillo and Doni should done more better on 2nd goal freekick from Morales.

Mexico calm on first half, and Brazil formation didn't work on first half.

Brazil 0 - 2 Mexico ( 23"N.A. Castillo 29"R. Morales )

Brazil have far more better on 2nd half, but Mexico GK make 3 good save and defender clear the ball on line.

Castillo have one very good chance on last minute, pass the GK and leave open but still can't score tongue.gif

Well done Mexico.

Shocking miss, almost equal Ronaldo's missed against SHU...

Dunga should drop Vagner, he's too much of a dribbler and often loses the ball to the opponent (Richardson II? ph34r.gif)..On the other hand, Alfonso had a great game, Robinho too.

alamak so disappointing, got up early morning to watch Brasil hoping for a beautiful game... they lost, but still beautiful, with some amazing individual skills...

can u imagine that? brasil got 9 shots on target n 11 off target, none of them went in... do u call that unlucky? well, things didnt turn out well in the frist half, therefore its not easy for them to pick up the rhythm n momentum after the break, even tho they tried... "for some moments, they lost their balls far too cheaply"

Chile has been shit since Zamorano and Sala left the side. In the match against Ecuador, they were overwhelmed in midfield for much of the game. Even in past when they had Zamorano and Sala up front, they didn't have much to offer at the back.

If you ask me it's down to crap finishing rather than luck, that is often used as a convenient excuse for losing.

agree.. why Ronaldinho and Kaka berlagak sangat take holiday? Robinho can play why they cant?

hav to admit that Brazil is an average squad (even worst) with Dunga.. same as MacClaren for England..

They still have alot of talent in their squad but maybe just lacking in experience. I do expect them to bounce back the next game. It's still a long way to go.

i think dunga career as brasil coach will be end if brasil not reach at least semifinal
*
Don't think so...The fans back in Brazil love him (as a player), probably he will be sacked 4 games before the end of CONMEBOL WCQ if Brazil is not topping the table.

Or another probability is, Brazil's failure to win the next 3 games encounter against Argentina laugh.gif

well i dun think those r crap finishing, rather they didnt shoot the right place... those werent some of the mexican GK greatest saves(speaking of the experience being a GK)..
I know what you mean mate but when people tell me they play defender or keeper, I'm always reminded of Shebby going, "In my playing days...", and I think to myself, "Shebby, you were playing for Malaysia, Steve McMahon played for England! At the World Cup!, big difference in class there". Great saves but in the end, you pay the price for not finishing. I wouldn't call it luck, as you say the keeper played a blinder. It was just his day I suppose.

For a team that claimed that their reserves were good enuff to win the World Cup, Mexico should have been a breeze... But kudos to the Mexican keeper... Heroic saves kept Brazil under pressure

Paul Masefield is bearable but can someone please shoot Shebby??!!?! mad.gif His commentary is pedestrian at best. At one point he went, "That's right Veron, it doesn't matter how big name a player you are, you still have to put on your shin pads right, and your socks.. erm you socks right", or something to that effect.

I wake up every morning now looking forward to a good game of football, and then I hear the ever so distinctive voice of one Shebby Singh. Credit to Paul Masefield for not giving him a smack to the head. Waking up to Shebby is like getting up in the morning, gazing at the sun rise from the horizon, listening to the birds singing, taking in a breath of fresh air, looking forward to a great day ahead, only to discover your dog has died.

the thing is, shebby keep on preaching about the same old pace issue, like a foul is seen as a professional foul because the defender lack of pace..

... and on some other occasions i cant remember...

if u noticed, right before aimar 3rd goal, he said the wings lack pace, or something like that...but right after aimar's goal, he said "now we see the classic of argentina...blah blah blah" ... that's how inconsistent his commentaries are.

it's only 1st round copa, and im alr sick of shebby's voice

that is if argentina top their group rite which they'll face 2nd place for group A.. if they'r 2nd they'll face leader for group B.. so its better if brazil get 2nd place coz that's d only way we can meet d argentinians in final.. here's d overview..

Argentina cruise past Peru
Argentina set up a Copa America semi final against Mexico with a 4-0 quarter final win over Peru. All four goals came after the half-time introduction of Carlos Tevez, who was involved in three of the goals and hit the bar.

Juan Roman Riquelme (two), Leo Messi and Javier Mascherano were on the scoresheet for Alfio Basile's men.

Argentina dominated from start-to-finish, although sterling first half defending by Peru saw the sides enter half-time goalless.

With incisive passing and movement Argentina men threatened to cut Peru apart from the off, a combination of desperate last-ditch challenges, good goalkeeping and good fortune keeping them in the match, Messi hitting the woodwork after sending in a deflected shot following a trademark surging run.

But Peru went behind almost immediately after the break when Tevez - who started the match on the bench for Diego Milito but came on after the Zaragoza striker failed to impress in the opening 45 minutes - set up Riquelme with a superb flick, the on-loan Boca Juniors midfielder rifling home from the edge of the box.

Tevez then hit the crossbar with a spectacular flying header from Javier Zanetti's cross and Argentina doubled their lead soon afterwards when Riquelme carved open the Peru defence with a superb through ball that sent Messi free to make no mistake with the low finish.

Argentina were dominant now, the rejuvenated Juan Sebastian Veron walking off to a standing ovation. Mascherano made it 3-0 after superb interplay from Tevez and Messi saw the Manchester United target feed the Barcelona starlet, who forced a superb save from the goalkeeper only for the ball to fall into Mascherano's path, the Liverpool man finishing with aplomb.

The performance was capped-off by a sweeping counter-attack which saw keeper Roberto Abbondanzieri clearing from outside his own area and freeing Tevez, the 23-year-old shrugging off two challenges before unselfishly slipping the ball into Riquelme who stroked home his second of the night and fourth overall in the Copa.

Argentina finish the quarter final phase as favourites to win the tournament ahead of Brazil, who face Uruguay in their semi final.

Is that still the latest score? I was watching the first half and what a game is was! Was hoping to catch a bit of the 2nd half before leaving for work but the mother p* floodlight had to go on strike. Uruguay have really been sparked by the return of Recoba whose career went silent for awhile. He is lethal from deadball situations and twice tried to score from a corner. If anything, I would not be disappointed to see Uruguay in the final after the performance they are dishing out now. The Brazilians on the other hand have been giving Uruguay captain, Lugano a torrid time and he was fortunate not to concede a penalty in the first half.

Please continue to provide updates mates! Cheers!

Amazing penalty, tension all over. Dungo for Winner to loser to lost hope and ended being in the Final. Controversy in Final penalty taken by Lugano. Keeper indeed step out of his line before the kick. Poor refreeing again, but this is COPA standard. Pity Uruguay and lucky Brazil but that football.

brasillllllll were super lucky to reach the final.
and all the controversy regarding lugano's PK, i believe even if doni didnt step off his line, he still woulld've saved it as it was really a poor penalty.
so tomorrow will be an epic match between the argies and the mexicans, cant wait for it.
hope mascherano scores again!!!!

Well Lugano was lucky to escape unpunished when he nudged a Brazilian player (Wagner Love, Robinho?)to the ground in the first half, so I guess justice was served.

Monday 9am, Messi magic or goal. One of the best goal in Copa. Uruguay Gracia goal magnificent too. Mexico don't deserve to lose 3-0. But Argentina make use of their chance and better in attacking football.

Did anyone notice Shebby's lack of vocabulary earlier? He was trying to describe a wayward pass from Veron and went, "... he likes to make those, I can't find the word for it, 'ooohhhhhh' passes. Passes that make the crowd go 'oooohhhhhhhhh'. Either that or those 'wahhhhhhh' passes".

I must give credit to Paul Masefield for being able to tolerate Mr. To be honest.

"To be honest".
"Indeed".
His voice is annoying, his vocab sucks, he criticizes players as if he used to be a football legend and he talks nonsense. He said veron is too fancy and all that shit but i thought veron was brilliant. This guy is damn noob i dunno how he can get the commentator job. everytime he talks i can see wut is goin thru masefield's mind = to punch his face or not to punch.

i disagree on the veron thing. i thought he was poor, and gave away the ball too cheaply. he tries too many of those fancy flicks but makes a mess of it. i dunno why he is starting for argentina. i prefer fernando gago over him.

and the messi goal was just surreal! best goal so far for me.

act he was so much better than akmal rizal who been useless throughout the match...indra putra is quite good honestly in malaysian level...
dont understand why the coach didnt put Nanthakumar in the 1st team...this guy been winning all the headers playing deep down..he could have at least save malaysia's embarrasment..

other than that, most of the players are crap and useless on the field...the worst player on the picth was the keeper...he was the clown in the match...
come on, top level football having a clown as a gk, is total joke..!!

Back to Copa...

Messi goal absolute class...thats the goal of the tournament i reckon...Argentina has all the class to win Brazil in the final...

Was really an unstopabble performance from Argentina....

neway, if Argentina does win brazil in the later stage...will they be the 1st team to have all win record in copa ??? rolleyes.gif

I agree with your observation. I somehow reckon Argentina would be a better team if he's dropped and Riquelme allowed to dictate play all by himself.

Its always like that, when ever there a favorite to win. Result go opposite. So my Prediction Brazil win 2-1. Eventho i hate Brazil so much. But can't deny the fact, if Brazil lift their game they could beat everyone. Just don't let Riquelme and Messi and Tevez get the ball or chance to play their game. Can't wait to see Messi vs Robinho

Wow, Argentina have been a disappointment in the final... Ayala was WAY off form and he contributed directly to the first two goals, that nice one from Baptista as well as a really horrible own goal!

Looks like Brazil still has the upper hand when it comes to matches against Argentina... I doubt there is any way for the Argies to claw back, especially after Alves got the third goal...

This is fair and square, brazil indeed more stronger than Argentina. From their defence to offence, everyone is on their position and very co-operate. When defense, everyone come back to defense, when attacking, everyone goes attack. This is true football by brazil.. The cup is deserve for brazil. nod.gif

Congrats to Brazil, they really showed their true footballing colors at last, after the substandard performances throughout the tournament... But what happened to Argentina, where the opposite happened (good all the way until the final, where they crumbled)?

But had that shot by Riquelme gone into the net in the 10th minute, things might have been different... Looks like the Argies had more shots on target but couldn't convert any of them whilst the ever-accurate Brazilians got three goals...

Unfancied Brazil stormed to the Copa America title with a comprehensive a 3-0 victory against Argentina. Julio Baptista scored a stunning opener early in the match before a Roberto Ayala own goal just before the break doubled the advantage. Daniel Alves put the result beyond doubt. Argentina simply had no answer.

In the beginning~
From the way Argentina performed...I thought this is a reborn Argentina.
Strong for the next World Cup.
And Brazil...still 'crawling'.

But now, tongue.gif
Even without star players, Brazil 'tamed' Argentina.

Try not to type in caps, makes it seem at though you're shouting, and no one likes "I told you so" comments. Kudos for getting it right, but backing Brazil isn't exactly a big stretch. There were after all 1 of the 2 favourites. Would have been more impressive had you backed someone like Mexico and they won it.

Argentina are arguably the team which plays with a little more flair these days. Under Scolari, Brazil were criticised for adopting a more technical and this boring approach to the game. The same can be said under Dunga. It just comes to show that sometimes you have to play effective football and not attractive football, to get results.

Congratulations to the Brazilian team for winning the cup. Argentina was really unlucky the whole game. 1 goal denied by the crossbar and 1 perfect save from Doni. Argentina had more attacks but not lucky to get any goals. Brazil were fast with their counter attacks, each so accurate and perfect.

the argentines were unlucky in the match, if Riquelme's shot go in then its a different match. anyway well done to brazil since their two best attacking players not playing in this copa.

I don't think any of the youths would want to play in/for Malaysia, if thats what you're implying.

Congratulations to Brazil for their Copa America victory.

Once again, congrats to Brazil for their comprehensive win over Argentina in the Copa final... Great job by the boys in Yellow (considering they were without their stars like Ronaldinho, Lucio, Kaka, and Adriano)! thumbup.gif

didn't catch the match, but i thought the Argies would finally put one up over their arch rivals, esp with the form that they've been showing throughout the tournament. looks like i'm wrong then...proves to us that the football is indeed round....

Brazil won on tactical battle. They man marked Messi and Riquelme. They stop all Messi and Riquelme movement. Aimar shud have started. Instead of playing 3 mens on the middle in Cambiasso, Veron and Mascherano, Argie could have deploy another striker to help out Tevez. He was left alone upfront against 4 defenders. Brazil counter attacks tactics work out well for them. Congrats to the Samba Kings.

exactly. Messi and Riquelme was heavily marked throughout the game and Veron and Cambiasso couldn't provide the strikers with good passes.
