Last night decided to drop by McDonald's ,masuk kereta start belum masuk D sudah kaboom .... White smoke coming out of front bonnet. At first taught my block pecah ..open the hood ,to my surprised is is actually the battery that exploded and spill acid all over my engine.
Battery still under 2 years warranty, called the shop that sold me the battery ,they did send people to my location to check out my car with a spare temporary battery.

They did test my alternator,no prob good charging within spec.

So after attached a temporary battery ,my car start fine .but the hood sensor damaged and my engine is covered with the acid.

So guys ,do you feel Hitachi battery will bare the damaged repair cost for those parts that's is damaged by the acid to all my engine compartment.

Reach home I did wash 3 time with soap and 1 time with baking soda (to neutrailze the acid ).

Did try to wash a second time with baking soda .... hopefully rust won't spread.

Contacted hitachi main distributor ...(Borneo technical) ,they say going to send someone to evaluate the damaged, but no mention of compensation .

So sad...but will update this 3th as the Hitachi guy coming to inspect .

Btw fusebox also damaged a bit and kena the acid.

So guys ,usually if can claim ,does it mean I can change all the parts that are damaged with brand new or they just repaint ,wash etc etc for me .

Rarely hear of car battery explode. They should compensate for any damage caused. I believe they've insurance to cover such damage to their customer's car

I think it will be hard to convince them all those damages are due to the exploded battery. Example are the rust. How are you going to prove the rust is never there in the first place?

Manufacturer/Distributor should have product liability insurance.

Just that the whole process would take time.

Your Hitachi is made in Japan or Thailand?

can see compare the before and after ...from picture shown.i think they know that sulfuric acid eat through metal and paint and it is very corrosive.
unless they don't care about their brand reputation ..than... can going on protect mode.maybe i will go to small court claim against them.

btw if through logic,my car suddenly have rust all over the engine components?magic?

Wash thoroughly. And using rust converter might help stopping the rust.

Wow u really lucky. It's a reminder that lead acid battery do create hydrogen and is vented out if overpressure. In your case could be due to the vent blocked

How are you going to claim your "Labour" compensation from them. You should have sent your car to a professional cleaning company that can clean your car thoroughly and claim from Hitachi. Also send to SC for them to thoroughly access the damaged parts.

Take as many photos as you can. Test again your alternator(second opinion) to cover yourself. I have a feeling that they will claim that your alternator overcharged the battery.

Most likely the exploded battery relief valve failed.
Feel for you bro..

dun think a failed/blocked vent valve will cause an explosion like this. more probable explanation would be there is either internal short or minor circuit breakage causing arching and that ignited H2 build-up. the result is what we can see in photos shared by TS.

Overcharge or short can cause overpressure. From picture looks like one cell kaput. When overpressure the valve should open to release. If not will explode like what we see here.
Please take more pictures of the battery. I am looking for signs of deformation on the overall plastic wall(overcharge)
Short-circuit should only have deformation on one cell wall
