Dear any Linux expert,
I now want to run a Linux driver [open source HostAP driver] in Linux OS.
And for the specific driver I used, I need a WLAN 802.11 abg card in the laptop with Prism Chipset.
For my case here, I am going to by a brand new laptop.
(1) Any Linux+Wifi friends there using Prism Chipset in their Wifi card?
(2) Which manufacturer to buy with supported Prism Chipset in the laptop as well as the 802.11 Wifi card?
Please help me!! Thank you
heng

Don't bother looking for such a laptop - it only limits your options. Get the Prism-based card after you buy the laptop.

Getting Started

If i read correctly, you want to turn a notebook into a mobile wireless access point, and the cheapest AP solution would be those based on the PRISM chipset, since it comes with AP support. Centrino based laptops are tied to Intel's Pro/Wireless and thus probably wont fit. I'm not sure if there are any notebooks with integrated 'PRISM G' if it's just a mobile AP, consider an old notebook with PCMCIA slot, find a PCMCIA card based on PRISM II (if you dont mind 11b) and play around. if you really want PRISM G, research wireless PCI cards or wireless router.. some manufacturers based their products on PCMCIA card solution to cut cost.. rip it apart to get the card. have fun.
