Good point but a lot of other pre-HMD Global non-Android Nokia devices could run WhatsApp as well such as Asha 210

Well, they were preHMD and whatsapp no longer supports them (iinm - haven't actually on my e72 to check). Actually planning to buy the 8110 and try it out. Looking forward to use it as hotspot for my laptop with a little whatsapping.

In any case... On the current crop of android Nokia phones by HMD... the thing that irks me the most is that it is very rare to find a model with decent battery. Most have around 3k mAh only (with a few exceptions).

Hotspot functionality is very rare on non smartphones hence why I consider hotspot functionality as a 8110 4g major selling point.

True, battery capacity on Nokia devices by HMD Global should be definitely larger. Anyway, thank you for mentioning battery capacity.

To tell you the truth, I almost went for the Sirocco. I thought it was going to have good camera (at least better than my Mi 5). It already had IP67 and USB-C. I could live with no sd card slot (heck, my Mi 5 had no slot) as it had 128GB storage. And the battery life was around the same as my Mi 5. The price was attractive, too... around 2300 riyals at the time (launch price).

Unfortunately (some would say, fortunately), they only brought in the single sim version. I had paid for the phone already because the advert and spec sheet at the official store said "DUAL SIM" - only to open it up and find out that it was single sim. Good thing I opened it up at the store, so they had no excuse but to take back the phone.

I was the first customer to buy that phone. Alas, it had to be returned as I cannot live with single sim anymore. "Had to" settle with P20 Pro, even though it was more expensive.

The next opportunity came when I had to upgrade my other phone, a 3G phone with triple sims (see what I mean about single sim). This was really an outdated phone and it wasn't really agreeing with the local 3G network (internet speed was slow). I really wanted to buy that 7 plus. Unfortunately when I held it in my hand, it felt sharp at the edges. With no casing to buy (didn't know that I could've bought online from China, at that time), had to settle with another phone. I needed good battery life as this phone would be my daily Waze phone and like I said before, not many Nokia phones have good battery capacity. In fact, at the time only Nokia 2 was available with battery above 3k mAh.

With both phones now replaced (2 more years before I upgrade, I think), I can only go for 8110 4g to use as hotspot. So sad... was really anticipating to use Nokia phones again.

Nokia treads the same path as HTC - great products, poor marketing and uncompetitive pricing. Well, that’s what I personally feel anyway.

What's with the 2GB/3GB RAM option for Nokia's lower range phones, is there a higher price for more RAM?

Yes. the more RAM and storage, the more expensive a phone will be. However in Malaysia, Nokia's android phones are typically sold with only the larger ROM RAM option.

Thanks for the info. I have been thinking of getting a Nokia since they're on sale right now.
Then there's also the newly released Nokia 4.2. So much choices right now.

A little sharing to you all, a former Nokia 8 owner, the unit is now sitting in my drawer, overall performance is great but the bug fixing update/software is lacking. A big disappointment over the brand and the device as, the device is less than 2 years old.

You may refer this, there were tons of issue :-

Yeah, got to agree. I don't think their marketing is actually the biggest weakness for HMD now. It's their software. I personally use a Nokia 2.1 and the bugs are plentiful.

The Nokia 1, 1+ and 2.1 may only have 1GB of RAM only but they do run Go version of Android which does a not bad job at hiding the low amount of RAM.

How does your 2.1 handle navigation apps like Waze, bro? Any issues?
