Hi arslow, it's not based on any clevo model.
*
I see... Anyway to actually find reviews on it? Seems like only the onyx Pro reviews are available. I guess due to the G being a completely new model only unveiled a few days ago and not an existing laptop with just the cpu and gpu refreshed?

We will have the review a sometimes later, probably after MCO smile.gif

Thx man looking forward to it smile.gif

Current laptop using a 2014 GPU, hands itchy to replace it although I don’t game as much on laptop as compared to desktop XD

Illegear has been here for quite some time now with minimal complaints, very much tempted to move from my MSI to it (although the MSI has no issues other than being a little old)

It's based on Tongfang GM5-W (aka Eluktronics Mech-15 G3)
*
I can see a number of Tongfang threads in notebook review forum.

Maybe one for this will come soon.

But man, looking at 10875h vs 4900hs benchmark results...I think I’ll wait till ryzen cpus are available with high end Nvidia GPUs.

Seems like intel has a few months exclusivity for the new cards.

We won't have Ryzen in our top of the line laptops for now, because that will lose thunderbolt 3.

Ah well that’s too bad...
2070 Super combined with 4900hs would be superb.

Yeah.. I have the same opinion with you. At this time, we could only wish and wait for the 'right' high-end model to come.
*
Since I don't have a dire need to upgrade now I'll wait till we have something like the above specs. I'm very sure it just a matter of time. No technical reasons as to why High end nvidia gpus can't be paired with ryzen...

Thunderbolt 3 is Intel's thing, if we were to make ryzen on high end models, we will have to change the Thunderbolt to 2x mini displayports.

Because of that, we will only have Ryzen from entry to mid range.
*
I guess only desktop amd are starting to certified for thunderbolt now and for aptops it's gonna be a while before it happens

And what’s the cpu gpu fan RPM when it’s at such temps?

That will tell us if this is a more widespread issue (maybe a specific batch?) or not since a few raven users are complaining.

On one end I’m so freaking tempted to get an onyx G although I wanna wait for a ryzen model, but also a little wary of the QC issues. For example my 2016 ge62 keycaps are still flawless biggrin.gif

Could be due to the fact the cpu is still new
Usually apps ike HWMonitor will be able to see both temperatures and the RPM of the fans.

Doesn't the illegear Command Centre show them?

Yeah. Curious also. Btw what gpu you went for? And your temps seems perfectly normal which is good to hear. Around 70+ with fan noise is expected for a gaming laptop.

Anybody have used raven se for a year or so? Recently found a video on youtube about the battery swelling after a year. :

This kind of things usually happens when laptop is charging while under high load.

By right once fully charged and plugged in the power source should bypass the battery and be direct. Wonder if that’s either not the case for this model or the user abused the laptop by constantly gaming while battery isn’t fully charged.

Happy to be corrected.

Tons of unhappy people with alienware laptops due to unresolved thermal issues for years even after many iterations and not to mention the soldered wifi and RAM.
They even screwed area51m buyers by saying they won't be able to upgrade to rtx 3000 and only within the same generation although one of the plus point advertised with it was upgradability.

The biggest con of all would obviously be the price. Not sure why the prices in MY are just absurd for alienware and xps.

Big brand alternative to brands like illegear would be msi acer or lenovo imo as even asus laptops are too slim these days that thermals are affected.

what is your opinion about Brand like Commandos, Level 51, Gigabyte and Razer ?
*
Am not so well versed about laptops hence can only share my opinion about certain brand swhich I've read on.

Razer and gigabyte auros series are also kinda bad choices unless you really want something slim. Prices are absurd too. Commando and level51 shud be similar to illegear as they shud be using tongfang/clevo etc. Laptops.....

Anyway for illegear to be able to have an rtx 2070 super laptop for just 8k is pretty awesome....but at least from this forum it remains to be seen if any of the laptops can actually keep it from thermal throttling. Hopefully someone can share in the future. I'm not the fanboy type when it comes to laptops so if you're good, you're good, if not you're not lol.

Lastly I hope brands can stop trying to be so slim and light for their gaming series. 2.5kg/25mm is still fair imo. At least that gives the chance to have better ventilation and thicker and more heat pipes.

Most of our models required the present of both the charger and battery in order for the laptop to perform optimally.
The laptop CPU will perform relative same with or without the battery but the GPU clock and memory speed will decreases due the motherboard power delivery designed required both charger and battery power supply to operate efficiently.

QUOTE(alexnvidia @ May 27 2020, 08:36 PM)
Unfortunately, illegear support staff is right about this. most ODM use this trick to save money on PSU. Rather than supplying us with a bigger PSU, they reduced the PSU size and use the battery instead to provide the extra juice when the PSU is not supplying enough power. In your case, you laptop could be drawing 240W-250W during gaming but the PSU is only rated for 230W, so the extra power is provided by the battery. This is why sometimes after a gaming session you will notice your battery discharged and depending on how long you game, it can discharge 10-15% or more. They have a fancy name for it like "hybrid power source" but it's just a marketing term to reduce cost.

You can read more about it here
https://www.asus.com/me-en/support/FAQ/1039026/

So you might not realize it, but if you game a lot, your battery is also under a lot of stress. Example, if your battery is only lightly discharged to 95% after a gaming session, it will charge back that 5% after that. and we all know that battery is under a lot of stress when it's trickle charging at the last 10-20% which explains why your battery got swollen up. in fact, if you take note, a lot of times after you shut down the laptop and go to sleep with battery at 100% charged, the next day when you power on, the laptop will start to trickle charge again (lost 1-2% charge doing nothing) even though it was completely shut down the night before. This is just one of the several annoyances we have to live with this particular laptop.

It seems that the MAX 17 (should be similar to Selenite I believe for Illegear) has something called Eluktroboost which enables the GPU to pull in more wattage than the usual 115 watt for
The rtx 2070 Super variant so that there is an actual perf difference between rtx 2070 and rtx 2070 Super. The mech 15 g3 (or Onyx G) should have the same tech in it too.

Does illegear do that too, or is it still limited to 115 watts?

180W is enough for RAVEN SE-R.
Let me get back to you later. We do have the GPU Boost in 9th gen ONYX & SELENITE as well as current RTX2060 80W lineup (boost to 90W).
These can be adjusted in Command Center, our tech support can help on that 0182618599 (WhatsApp).

Thanks man. I'm so itchy to get the onyx G that I'm trying my best to find more justifications to get it and not wait for ryzen tongue.gif

Hi arslow,

According to ODM ID during concall, the maximum power is 115W, anything above that will easily cause the GPU power MOS to be burnt. However, it's fine to do boosting from 80W to 90W on RTX2060.

Ah OK, perhaps Eluktronic is doing something special to make it work. Thanks for checking on it though!

Illegear site seems to be down. Wanted to see see look look the ryzen offering. I believe it's the one other brands like Eluktronic also has. Only issue is the tiny 62wh battery. If 92/99 with new 115w 2060 would be amazing ready.

OK working now. Yeah, the new 115w 2060 plus a 92wh battery wouldve made it a seriously good budget gaming laptop.

Ok so after waiting for around 1 month , I finally got my Selenite G.

FYI , I'm satisfied with GDex Express Prime Service. They pickup the parcel on Monday and delivered to me on Wednesday
Basically you need to be patient if you order laptops from ILLEGEAR , since they have tons of order to deal with. After that , the delivery process will run smoothly

TechSupport is a little bit slow to reply but once they are on your case , they settle it pretty fast. Good experience dealing with ILLEGEAR TechSupport
Just a little bit sad since TechSupport can't help with tweaking my laptop  cry.gif

Just a little bit curious , is it normal for the processor maintain at approximate 60°C just with Google Chrome running ?
When I run After Effect , the temperature rise to approximate 87°C ( Not even start import the files / render )
GPU maintain at 50°C without anything on
Both temperature checked with ILLEGEAR Command Center

Is the cpu fan running? Check command center to get the rpm
