Over the Moon (2020)

This movie is made by Pearl Studio. Pearl Studio made Kung Fu Panda 3 and Abominable in collaborations with DreamWorks Animation. This is their first outing, without Dreamworks.

I must admit, that the first arc of this movie I enjoyed.

The second, story wise, got a little iffy (they expected the really really BIG leap of faith from their audience and I did not take the leap. The took WAY too much liberties with Chinese Folklore)

The third did redeem the movie somewhat and have to add, not to the level of the first arc...

So, averaging everything out, it is just a so so movie...

My Two Sen.

Stay safe everyone

Cronenberg fans, don't skip on this hidden gem. It's a throwback to the time when David Cronenberg still does his peculiar sci-fi thriller. High concept with healthy dose of screen violence. The premise is an assassin organisation can possess an intended target to carry out murder. The catch is you can risk losing memories or identity when you took possession of the stranger body. Hence you have those nightmarish and trippy visual cues when things start to goes south. Brandon Cronenberg is a fitting heir to his father's legacy. Suppose the apple doesn't fall away from the tree.

Another long list...

Greenland (2020)
Did you see the film "2012"? If so, then this is almost the same except downgraded... another Gerard "no-other-better-film-project-to-do-so-I'm-doing-this" Butler movie. It's decent, but really average when compared to "2012".
6/10

Come Away (2020)
It's Alice In Wonderland, except there's no wonder at all. Seemingly pointless to the point where I'm hoping something at least happens in the end but no... if you can guess from the start what the story is, then you'll be sorely disappointed. Honestly didn't find it enchanting even when it tried.
5/10

Chick Fight (2020)
Women power! Malin Akerman delivers a decent performance in this comedy worth checking out. It's a bit SJW... but overall, it was quite entertaining though it's been done before countless times.
6.5/10

Jiu Jitsu (2020)
puke.gif Nicolas Cage - please, stop. This is cheapskate Halloween Predator version. Story? What story? CGI looks like pre-viz instead of final cut.
2/10

Run (2020)
Fantastic. Really enjoyed this one. It has an M Night Shyamalan feel to it. Newcomer Kiera Allen delivers a stunningly believable performance in this thriller film with Sarah Paulson. Highly recommended for thriller/horror fans. Nice twist too. If you enjoyed "Searching", you will absolutely love this (and like wise). I googled later about Kiera Allen and was shocking.gif about her actual condition. She has a great acting future ahead!
8.5/10

Dreamland (2019)
Pretty decent I guess... it's a bit formulaic, guy falls for girl but is a criminal, they fight for freedom... you get the idea. Predictable ending but worth checking out.
7/10

The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special (2020)
Started average at best, felt like another rushed Holiday special that was going to butcher the series but surprisingly, it wasn't. If you're a Star Wars fan, you'll get to see plenty of references and callbacks to the original and the prequels. It has a runtime of about 45 minutes, so it's kinda like an extended TV episode. Overall doesn't add much but it's a fun watch.
6.5/10

The Nest (2020)
This was an interesting film. I went in not knowing what it was about (horror? thriller?) but turned out pleasantly surprised. It's a mix of horror & thriller to be honest lol, as the film doesn't give you all the answers but keeps you wondering from start to finish. Jude Law delivers a great performance. Overall worth watching if you're a fan of the genre.
8/10

Fatman (2020)
Very interesting premise, but fails to deliver the goods. This is the bloody version of Santa Claus (complete with 'little helpers'). I thought Mel Gibson did quite well but it's such a wasted opportunity as the film doesn't really take off. You get to see some decent gunplay but overall I expected a lot more considering how rare we get this kind of treatment to the 'Christmas' spirit tongue.gif
6.5/10

Boss Level (2020)
Roy Pulver is a man that dies and then gets revived, and he gets to 'play' this over and over again, each time getting closer to his goal. It's "Edge of Tomorrow" meets video game madness. I kinda liked it, but didn't really feel fulfilled with how it ended. Overall a fun watch but it can great repetitive (though intended) as you don't really care much for the characters.
6/10

Alien Covenant (2017)
I re-watched Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection recently and decided to watch this. I guess I now know why fans hated "Prometheus" as it didn't deliver the Alien kicking action and story they wanted. "Covenant" tries to be better and to me, it really does deliver the Alien action fans enjoyed but overall, it still harkens onto the David-story line from "Prometheus" (which is a little surprising) while the newer version "Walter" takes center stage. I skipped "Covenant" in cinemas but I did watch it later on, though I could barely remember much of it until now. I hope there's a third post-Alien Resurrection film that completes the David/Walter story line.
7.5/10

Let Him Go (2020)
Nice hidden gem. Kevin Costner and Diane Lane once again play husband-wife with really good chemistry. I really felt the connection between the parents and the daughter-in-law while the friction with the in-laws really get to you... and I mean really get to you in the most uncomfortable of ways. It's bloody, it's violent and it's really heart aching. Nice ending... quite memorable. Recommended!
8.5/10

Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Hello kiddies!

How is everyone?

I hope everyone is well.

It is showing.

It is NOT showing.

Oh it is showing.

Duing this difficult time, I am sure there are alot of spectators to the world of politics (both in the US and locally) and also the Covid-19 situation.

I on the other hand THE news I was following was whether or not Wonder Woman 1984 is going to show.

I salivated for this movie (that is right I SALIVATED!)

And after all the wait

After wondering why GSC website isn't taking ticketing sales (you have to use their app doh.gif)

How IS the movie?

50/50

There are some part of this movie I absolutely LOVE!!!

There are some parts where I went shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif

First arch, pure gold.

The beginning at the second arch, still good.

And things went south after that...

Maybe because of the wait, my expectation are feverishly high (no no, I do not have Covid-19, not need to get the health minister to commit me)

This could have been such an amazing movie (to me).

Some part of the script I feel can be made much better....

Do not take my word about this. If you are safe in your local cinema, please consider watching this. The production value is great.

And like always, this is JUST, My Two Sen

The Rescue 紧急救援 (2020)

This was supposed to be this year Chinese New Year money maker.

You have a successful Hong Kong director.

You have the IT guy currently in Chinese Cinema (Eddie Peng).

What could go wrong?

Well, namely, Covid-19 sweat.gif

So, how does this movie fare?

No bad.

I have to give credit where credit is due, no one makes action sequence like Hollywood, and this is where Hong Kong/China movie industry has yet to catch up.

Having said that, this movie has it's moments.

Production value is there.

Script has... Hollywood tropes and than goes on a tangent, sometimes for the better sometimes...

This movie is Rated R and I thought it is because of the guys butts scene (which is pixelated)

It turns out it is rated R because

So, should one watch this at the cinema.

Is it worth paying for a ticket and risking life to watch this?

If you are 100% sure you local cinema is safe and you can buy the ticket, I would say, go for it

Soul (2020)

To be frank, Pixar's offerings have not gotten me excited for awhile now.

Sure, Coco's great. Incredibles II was a little late, and it is still great.

Nothing after that really... excite.

When I saw the trailer for this, my interest was peaked, though not overly so...

Manage to catch this today and I am sold, body and soul.

This movie is "high" concept, from animation to script.

Traditionally speaking Pixar are able to present very complex concept to people of all ages to very understandable animation.

And this delivered in spades.

This is NOT your usual Hollywood offerings.

And with the situation we are all in, I can understand why Disney went the direct to VOD.

Understand, yes, agree with, no.

I really really hope people watch this is any way they can

It is a truly wonderful movie, for ALL ages.

And the end message, is what we truly need indeed.

Watch this.

Please watch this.
