Last time (I am talking about our grandfathers time), each dialect speaker considers other dialect speakers as a different as race. So, yeah racism does happen because to them Hokkien is a different race.

But now, its has mostly died off because all the youngsters can speak mandarin and I think most Chinese thinks its silly to consider other dialect speakers as another race.

Of course we now look at them and think its so silly, but I guess that is when people are more uneducated.
