Only 35 e-hailing drivers sent cars for Puspakom checks since Apr 1

PETALING JAYA: Only 35 of 200,000 registered e-hailing drivers nationwide have brought their vehicles for inspection at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) since April 1.

Commenting on the poor response, Puspakom chief executive officer Shukor Ismail said this could be due to the condition set by e-hailing operators that the drivers need to apply for the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence and take up the PSV training first, before sending their vehicles for inspection.

He added this was not neceessary as the government had already waived the sequence order.

"Drivers can come to Puspakom to do the inspection first, and get the PSV licence and training later,” he said at a media briefing session on the e-hailing vehicle inspection operation here on Sunday.

"All we want them to do immediately now is to get their vehicle checked at the 54 permanent inspection centres nationwide, before the regulations for e-hailing operators come into force on July 12.”

Shukor said Puspakom also provides 19 fleet of mobile inspection units to ease the inspection task for the drivers.

"These centres will be operating from 8am till 7pm everyday. Drivers are urged to do the inspection as early as they can.

"This is also to avoid the last minute rush. If all come to the centres near to the deadline, it will be troublesome for everyone," he said, adding that the inspection would only take less than 60 minute to complete.

As of the fee, he said drivers need to pay RM75 for the first scale inspection, followed by RM55.

He added if the vehicle did not meet the requirement set by Puspakom, the driver needs to repeat the inspection for RM25.

"The vehicle needs to be in good shape and meet the road transport requirements such as standardised registration number plate, no heavy tint, brake and meters in good condition, and so on," he added.

well they just want to make it proper..
so to make it proper, need to do a lot of step by step process..
yes it seem like daylight robbing, but they didnt have any record whatsoever about all the e-hailing service.. so by doing that, they know that all the vehicle are inspect and ready to go..
