Hi all, my old pc speaker is at the verge of dying and i need some opinions on which setup i should go with.
my budget is around 1k or lower for soundbar and around 500 for pc speakers
i listens to alot music, watch videos and some home studio recording

my current setup is audio from my mobo 3.5mm (Fatal1ty H87 Performance) to the current speakers.
i actually have a dac (Focusrite Scarlett 6i6) which i only use it for some recording purposes.

so my question is, will it be advisable to go with the soundbar or the normal pc's speaker?
which model recommended for soundbar/speakers?
the best output that i could get should be pc>6i6>speaker/soundbar?

If you are talking about Yamaha rm1600 soundbar, then yes it's good. Else, I still think independent speaker works better. Unless u have space issue lah

Normally good speaker for recording it is good for music & movie. But for some audiophile studio speaker normally produce flat respons not really low/deep in bass & need subwoofer for deep/punchy bass. Like myself need basshead speaker & headphone, for example HD800/s headphone not enough bass for me, I prefer Audeze LCD2/3 with bass control amp.

The good thing about soundbars is that it accepts digital input directly to the unit, whereas most computer speakers are using analog.
I purchased a Sony HT-S100F (2.0 ch, Optical (TOS) and HDMI ARC input only) for less than RM 400 (there was a HN closeout sale). Sound is good compared to typical computer speakers, except for the bass since there is no subwoofer. The HT-S200F comes with a built-in subwoofer but it is twice the price of the S100F.

Only problem is that with only 1 HDMI input and no pass-through, connecting a Computer Display is a bit troublesome since you'll need to have a separate audio Optical out from the PC and another HDMI/DP/VGA for the screen display, and the soundbar won't turn on automatically when using the Optical In.

I have yet to find an IPS computer monitor with HDMI input and HDMI-ARC/CEC support (somehow only TVs have HDMI-ARC/CEC support). LCD TVs are too large for desktop use in my case.

Edit: It also supports Bluetooth streaming if you wish to connect your smartphone to it.

I'm no audiophile but i've been using Creative SoundblasterX Katana for my PC for a few months now and still loving it. This soundbar is designed for desktops so it's size are much smaller compared to the usual soundbars used for tellys, while packing on powerful, clear sound. I have it connected through optical digital output as well for it's Dolby Digital support when I'm watching movies. And having bluetooth connectivity is a good plus as well since I have my Spotify on most of the time at home

If I use display port on the monitor, can I hook the Sony up into the GPU HDMI port? It's quite easy to choose playback device in Windows if it allows that.

All depends on how picky you are towards audio like quality and direction.

Sound bar quality can be good, just a matter of directional audio. Not that they can't but being from a single source it's far limiting compared to having multiple sats.

The Sony has HDMI-ARC input only, so you can't connect it directly to normal HDMI output.

There are some HDMI to HDMI-ARC and Optical Out splitter/converters available, I have not tried any of them before so I can't comment.
