as per my previous topic, refer here:
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/471077

now i have narrowed down my search to the below. my preference is 4 doors, sedan(preferably), automatic transmission and vehicle age must be after 2000(easier to get loan). usage is back & forth work (~50km travel distance/day) & the occasional outstation outing(balik kampung, genting):
honda city type z (1.5) year 2000/01
peugeot 206 (1.6) year 2000/01
peugeot 406 (2.0) year 2000/01
proton gen2 (1.6) year 2004/05
proton perdana (2.0) year 2001/02
proton waja (1.6/1.8) year 2003/04/05

need all you sifus advise. not sure bout the FC or maintenance cost for the above cars as well. heck, im not even close to deciding yet. icon_question.gif

or if u guys have other recommendation, can share as well. icon_rolleyes.gif

If you shortlisted it then:
honda city type z (1.5) year 2000/01

maintaining it is cheaper than peugeot.
Perdana has build quality issues that are a defect from the start especially the joining sections of the front bumper below the front lights. That connection over time will twist and 2 years with that car you can see it twist, the longer the more the twist. If its not a twist there will be some gaping hole there. ALso its not the best car to drive.
Waja is ok, but then its up to you in the end

honda resale value still high compared to waja, n higher quality but long term dont know good or not, since more than 6 years the age. must look for low mileage then. unsure.gif

Waja 1.8 is a different engine from 1.6 variant. Spare parts may cost more than 1.6 (not sure by how many % more, prolly 30-50%?). Proton 1.8 owners can clarify?

Some defects might be commonly known, surf for forums if really intrested in waja and the diff between 1.6 & 1.8. The price of 1.8 is same or cheaper than 1.6 of the same year.

Either go Jap or Waja 1.6. Jap less % see mechanic, Waja need more care for minor problems (Powa window, door handles, etc.). These days buy car cannot see resale value, volatile and going down fast. Today it sells for 40k next year it may sell at 25k.

Low milage also cannot gauge unless confirm service booklet match, if not usually tampered with, also no point.

Summary - Buy cheap, maintain cheap, loan 3 years. Saves lots of hassle and heartache.

Maintain gf asso not that susah LOL

Waja so far only have minor problems that I think is not that important like PW or door handle. Anyway they already got those steel kinda PW to replace the old version 1 with pvc/plastic(dono wad lah) which the mechanic told me that wont bring any problem anymore after u change to that new pw.

i vote for waja 1.6(A)
i heard some ppl said that maintenance for a waja is not cheap, but i feel that it's going to be cheaper than a peugeot or honda car anyway.

Actually Waja is quite cheap to maintain if you know where to service. Dad just changed 4 mountings cos around RM430+ with workmanship. But seriously, so fast it was gone, 2 years+ and 3 out of 4 are gone case, feels like you're driving a moving OSIM biggrin.gif

List of problems 1.6(A) so far fixed:
- 2 PW problem (motor replaced, PW switchboard replaced), passanger side very loud when opening.
- 2 suspension at the back (1 set)
- Mountings (1 set - 4 biji)
- 2 Lower arm at the back
- Side mirror paint chipped off (known issue) - did not repaint
- Door handles 3 out of 4 broken (replaced)

Age of car: 3 years old+

Other than that, good handling but noisy interior due to engine sound all transfer into cabin. Was worse off when the mounting died. Overall rating, a cheap good car from point A to B and need a little more attention due to minor problems. Need to see mechanic once a month to fix these little rascals. Now probably less like maybe 2 months once.

definitely gonna kill me already.

ok, for updates, i just went to a 2nd hand dealer n 'book' a waja 1.6(a) year 2003, not premium edition. car value quoted 34k, gonna arrange for 33k loan. but they asking me to pay 4k first, for insurance, road tax, ownership, puspakom purposes. is that amount fair? unsure.gif

n they can accept my old car for trade-in, thank god. laugh.gif
