I just replaced my stock speakers to Alpine S-S65C. It sounded wonderful at the shop's demo, but in my car, the tweeter(mounted on dashboard) is kinda overpowered and the high pitch sound is hurting my ears even on low volume.

The woofers is weak, even weaker than the stock speakers. When I turn the volume up, it feels like it only increases the tweeter volume. Basically the sound is 70% from tweeters, 30% from woofers.

My current solution is the turn the treble all the way down to make it sounds bearable, but it still hurt my ear.

Btw, I have very little knowledge on car audio, I just want a better sound experience, but It got worst.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Maybe need to run in. Leave treble low for a week then see how.
Woofer weaker then in the shop? Either hu or amp then.
Next time please dun buy alpine speakers.

your budget?

anyway...for the tweeter ear piercing high...give it some time...it will tone down a little but not much...u can do better tuning with a good HU to cut the high...do the set comes with crossover box or only in line crossover network?

In-line crossover.

Budget for a new HU is below RM1000.

i forget...nowdays people just use the stock hu but pair it with dsp amp...u can search around for this option...more benefits using this route as u can tune all of the frequency and set up ur staging/time alignment...

An amplifier is overkill for me, I don't play my music loud.

Investing in a HU with decent power output suit me better.

hmm...there somewhere i read that add resistor/capacitor can reduce the harshness of the tweeter...thats the cheapest option but u need to study a bit on what value of the capacitor/resistor to use and how to wire them (in series or parallel)

Yeah I did that, installed a resistor to both of the tweeters.

possible reason

1. improper power matching
2. bad installation
3. bad tuning

possible solution

1. tell us what headunit / what car you install on
2. check for proper installation and wiring.
3. if both above done nicely, check your headunit setting. Some aftermarket unit got HPF. maybe it's on or the EQ are done wrongly.

Installed on Proton Iriz, stock head unit.

Double checked by the audio shop, no wiring problem according to them. They add resistor the both tweeter to reduce the volume.

EQ setting is very limited, only can adjust Bass(+7 to -7) and Treble(+7 to -7).

I set it to Bass +2, Treble -7.

yes, the iriz do have very high treble gain. on my assumption it's around 12db boost when eq set at 0. Proton did this to compensate the tweeter that they didnt install for you. same to preve and suprima.

the only solution is by using the resistor to reduce tweeter gain. what they did was correct.

Well it does make sense, because the stock speaker does not have tweeter like other aftermarket coaxial speaker.

But even with added resistor and EQ tuning, it barely improve the overall sound quality.

Tweeter is still very overpower and the woofer is very weak, way weaker then the stock speaker.

I have to set the fader to -7(lowest is -9), so I can get more bass from the rear stock speaker.
