I've been searching for a thread on this - the car launches this month, priced at RM140k, 150k, 160k and 170k depending on variant.

https://www.nissan.com.my/new-xtrail/

Thing is, is this worth a buy? Is it a significant upgrade over the older version? How does it compare to the competition - X70, CX5, CRV, CHR etc?

Appreciate for you guys to share your opinion.

Thanks!

Sold my 2.5 Xtrail last year

Good solid car, comfortable too. Then again, it's a nissan; the ugly duckling. Then again, i bought it cause i dont care how others look from outside (the ugliness), but to enjoy the comfort and okok performance (2.0 is shit, same goes to mazda)

Other than ugly, there's very littlw features too; sad to be tan chong.

Comparing to others, H&T = always cheap plastics, Mazda = only for other's viewing pleasure; feels very cramp inside

Not sure if they've solved the CVT problem. My version was plagued with the CVT problem. Of course, this followed by crap RV.

Bought 2.5 xt in 2015. So far no issue - service on time at nissan. Good for malaysia shitty road condition, comfortable and lots of leg room(third row only good for children). though I occasionally read about cvt issue in the facebook group.

The X-trail is a good car. Our close family friend has an X-trail and she loves it. With this latest facelift, the X-trail is truly a value for money SUV.
Personally I think the best model to get would be the 2.0 High Spec version (<150k)

The 2.0 litre engine is new (and it is very fuel efficient)
Avoid the 2.5 (It uses the same engine as the pre-facelift model and the roadtax is exorbitant)

The 2.0 Hybrid is good but you will have to sacrifice the 3rd row. Imo, it's not worth the extra 20k. smile.gif

I think the SC sent the car to mechanic for repairing. Not asking much. But the current x-trail gearbox is problematic as he already repaired few some more quite low mileage as he mentioned.

Since both model using same gearbox, did Nissan slightly edit to make it more reliable?

FL = facelift.
As mentioned by chyap99 above, his warranty is extended to 7 years warranty or 200k mileage.
You may negotiate with SC to prolong the warranty period.

The latest version is DOHC with twin CVTC claimed that better than previous version.
However still need feedback from other X-Trail user to comment.

I'd say get the 2.5 instead. 2.0 seems abit sluggish to me

The AWD gives a bit confidence on wet roads too

when I bought the car it only offer 3 years warranty, and the next year TC start giving 7 years warranty for new buyer..So I have to pay additional 3.5k to extend after my warranty expired.

Please take note year 6 and 7 is only cover engine, transmission and steering system and not like standard warranty which cover other small part also.

For new buyer, you may check with your SA, maybe you don't have to pay extra and the 7years warranty is included in the package.

15km/L is very good for 2.0

My accord 2.0 best is 13km/L. But rarely hit. Topkek.

Indeed cannot fight god car, but god car lightweight one. No shiok la cruise highway.

I'm thinking 2.0L MID after discount 134k ....
Heard that they've improved the gearbox.
Not sure how true is it...

This is the latest version with face lift.
Any suggestions?

Comparing with x70
Just seems like extra 2 more seats.

Please advise .....

Xtrail is good but you need to be very lucky.

The gearbox is a pain because the new facelift model still carry on using it which i hate it so much. My neighborhood's xtrail broken down 5 times and yes 5 times due to the gearbox problem. He eventually sold it and change to x70

My first choice was xtrail. But even now x70 is still the best suv comparing with xtrail , crv , cx5 and tiguan

But i never like proton aftersales so i eventually bought a different segment vehicle

No but Confirm during final replacement
He thought the new facelift is using a new gearbox but when the SC replace gearbox and He notice the part numbers are the same including FL models. Because it says for which models and what year

Asked the parts officer and confirmed that they are using the same. The gearbox problem is pretty much viral everywhere including some topics in this lowyat forum too

Don't get me wrong. I love xtrail but nissan Malaysia refuse to rectify it

For those owners who drove two years and more without a single problem. Don't sell your xtrail and enjoy it

Go for it dude.

Currently riding a 2019 2.0 model and it’s great.
Prior to this, owned a 2005 2.0 Xtrail till 2018 which is a great ride too.
Maybe I’m one of the lucky ones.

Currently using Xtrail 2.0 Hybrid almost 6 months already and NO problems. The fuel consumptions is great! can go KL - K.Terengganu - KL with one full tank but speed within/below 120KM/H and turn on the ECO mode.

suv size with 2.0 NA, u have to give a take on the power delivery. it good for 2.5NA on any SUV for power to weight ratio, or most doing by give turbo. Turbo on any suv will not give good FC.

It is decent, even with ECO mode on. Yes sluggish a little with ECO mode but not so with you switch it off. Manage your expectations though. Know it is not an X70 in terms of performance and you will be ok with it.

X trail 2.0 owner since 2016, I bought the extended warrants to 7 years. Best investment of my life.

Change aircond compressor, front suspension, engine suddenly died while driving at highway (got it repaired by tc but never told me whats the problem) cooling coil, steering rack and engine mount. Dont know why gear box until now still haven't died. Out of warranty change radiator rm700, total drive 160k km.

2020 2.0 owner here. Ride has been superb so far. Really nothing to complain about. Consumption is fantastic too. For town driving I normally use eco mode, kinda sluggish but then again no reason to rush anywhere so it works fine. For highway runs I would normally turn off eco mode and it is just fine. KL-PG doesn’t even take up half tank. No idea which other SUV can pull this off. Highly recommended and if TC brings in the new xtrail I will prob consider trading up for it.

2.0 more than sufficient in my opinion. You could check around to confirm if the new version will be coming to our shores anytime soon. Might be wise to wait for that I feel.

Is your X-Trail a 5-seater or a 7-seater?

Is the third row in the 7-seater very cramped?

And only suitable for children to sit in the third row?

How does he know that Nissan Japan asked Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad to set the selling price of the Nissan e-Power car at RM 200,000 or above?

Auto. No issue on anything else major. Change engine mounting once which I considered as wear and tear.

Mine is the 7 seater version. And yes it’s kinda cramped and only good for kids. Tbh the 3rd row seats are permanently down as I have a boot tray so there is almost no use of the seats for me. Keeping it as a five seater is just fine for me since no kids yet.
