Hi. Im planning to buy downlights for my house. I thought of buying Philips Meson series 5" 13W downlights but they are quite expensive. Is Philips downlight reliable and long lasting? Is there any cheaper and quality downlight brand? Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. 1st Premium Philip Osram Opple ... 2nd Mid-range FSL :- good Brand from Foh San China. One SOho subang using this Cielo Some other brand. 3rd low range and many other unknown brand are selling in lighting shop. Not long lasting Expensive LED brand had bettee power efficiency. Not all LED is same.. i am using Cielo after compare with 3rd group. Same Watt Cielo brighter. That time i didn't see there are hidden spec., The more you dig the more you confused if uou are comparing with flourescent down light bulbs.

The LED downlight quality nowadays are pretty good and long lasting as long as its not a dodgy brand, just go to a decent shop and you'll wouldn't go wrong..

I've used them for quite a few of their products and their downlights are one of it. Lasted 6 years now with some lights being left switched on 24/7/365. No burnouts, if it is a driver that burns out they could sell you a replacement driver.

Philips are slightly more expensive not because they are longer lasting. To a certain extent the durability of your LED depends on luck too. That said my Philips last as long as any other brands.
There is more to durability for LED light. Other criteria such as flicker, glare, stroboscopic effect, and color rendering are important too. These are the areas where Philips tend to be better generally. Philips lights fades the much less than most. It is more comfortable on the eyes.
I use Philips Marcasite for my house and they are quite ok. Unless you need a lot of downlights the price difference may be be that great

Hi sifus, GXFC! May I get some advise on a silly question. Renovating a subsale house for own stay now (including redoing plaster ceiling). After reading up a bit, I've decided to use the e27 4" or 6" casing. casing looks like this : https://shopee.com.my/YLI-4-6-LED-Recessed-...0013.27327327221/ Is the e27 4"/6" casing suitable for shower area? Any issues of it being "close" to water as the casing is exposed/open type, any risk of accidently water splash to the lights area? If not suitable, what would be an alternative? 2/ Should I get the e27 LED or CFL bulbs? have been using CFL all these years in my current condo, I think it does last quite a while. LED last longer? LED brighter (watt to watt) tqvm

Though it would subject to your ceiling height and if you are using very hot water, which causes lots of steam/moisture. 2. Been using e27 LED from Philips for over 4 years at my house, no issue thus far.

Some the lights suddenly not working, some because the spring suddenly broke and it can no longer hold on the ceiling.

Hi guys, I'm currently exploring downlight for my new unit. Looking to get about 28x downlights for the entire house (around 1.1 sqf). Want to ask what is the difference of; - 4 inch - 6 inch I'm currently looking at PHILIPS 59466 MESON Round 17W 6 Inches LED: https://www.lazada.com.my//products/i978056...fn&urlFlag=truePrice is RM29.90. Is this an ok pricing for a downlight? I always hear Philips is the most reliable one. Highly appreciate on your thoughts. Cheers!

Some may find them more "old school" looking, hence gravitate towards recessed led light which is PITA to replace and risk damaging a bit of plaster ceiling.

I'm looking to replace existing recessed led which is a pita to replace when they fail. Do you know how to choose the proper housing to accommodate the "ufo" bulb? I see Philips has one with longer base but not sure it can fit ngam2 to ceiling board (not too short to reach the base e27 socket, and not too long to protrude out from ceiling board). And there are those with very short base, so they won't fit existing e27 housing.

QUOTE(lj0000 @ Mar 26 2022, 08:10 PM) Good idea. Another question, if you don't mind. I see that when screwed in, the ufo light is flushed with the surface of the ceiling. How do we remove the ufo bulb in future - when we unscrew the UFO bulb, will the E27 housing rotate together with the UFO bulb? Images from Lzd. You see that the UFO bulb actually covers the rim of the original E27 housing

I'm seriously considering this set up for my next house. Currently, changing those recessed LED downlight is a messy job and requires climbing a rung higher on the ladder in order to release the catch.
