As suggested by a forummer in P30 thread, in order to get more enthusiastic feedback, I should post it here sweat.gif

Budget: below 3k
Main Objective: Buying new phone for travel use (camera + battery) end of this month.

As pointed out about Mate 20 Pro being cheaper in Lazada/Shopee/etc, I just checked and found out that Mate 20 Pro is being sold at 2.6k ish which more or less the same as P30 (non Pro).

Overall package clear choice should be Mate 20 Pro - but need to give way to :
- better front camera 32 MP in P30 (vs 24 MP in M20P)
- newer design (but no curved screen)
- bigger RAM 8GB (vs 6 GB)
- better low light camera (due to different censor)

conclusion , which one will be better choice ?? currently using p10 only , never try mate series before

I'm still ding-dong between these 2 doh.gif

Personal comparisons:

P30
+ better front camera 32 MP (vs 24 MP)
+ newer design (but no curved screen)
+ bigger RAM 8GB (vs 6 GB)
+ better low light camera (due to different sensor)
+ headphone jack
Price 2699

Mate 20 Pro
+ better/bigger screen
+ bigger battery
+ better rear wide angle camera & telephoto camera zoom 5x (vs 3x)
+ faster fast charging
+ wireless charging
Price ~2.6k (cheaper)

Overall = Mate 20 Pro (and proven in the past 6 month)
Camera = P30 (slightly only due to different color sensor and high spec front camera)

As my intention is clearly on camera for travel use, I'm now somehow more towards to P30 when I was towards Mate 20 Pro yesterday sweat.gif

I was also considering this two. But likely will go for m20p at 2.6~.
For better battery, oled higher res, better wide angle.
Headphone jack, low light is not a must to me.
Just not sure how different the selfe and new sensor will improved on p30.

Thing I don't really like is the cyan blue sky that occurs on huawei phone and missing detail on black color part of photo. ~.~

Selfie should be better in P30 considering P30 Pro's selfie high score in DxOMark (89 - Rank #4 compared to Mate 20 Pro at 75)
Selfie camera is identical in P30 and P30 Pro.

But let the actual photos to prove all these factual finding.

Shopee lowest I can find on Mate 20 Pro = RM2,549 (only free charging cable tongue.gif )

It's even RM150 cheaper than P30 !!!

Decision, decision, decision!

Just asked IPC Harvey Norman, currently on 70++ only. Special free gifts still available...

However, after seeing P30 and Mate 20 Pro side by side, I have confirmed to get the latter (in shopee). Good luck all!

Why? What made you to come to that decision?

This:

QUOTE(kimhoong @ Apr 6 2019, 05:09 PM)
I mentioned it multiple times here.

M20Pro is a more complete flagship phone.
P30 is slightly better in camera but loses everything else (slightly, not by a large margin). What I concern the most is the size.

M20Pro is also about RM150 cheaper than P30

The answer is too general.
Why is the Mate a more "complete" flagship? Due to the screen resolution? Can see the difference in real life? Or it's the overall build quality and design? Or because of dual speakers?
*
To put it on the opposite end, I should have said: P30 is less complete as a flagship phone.

Instead of completing with S10 and iPhone XS, I find P30 is more on completing with S10e and iPhone XR.

With the budget of RM2699 or lower, I am choosing Mate 20 Pro. It's also a personal preference that I am expecting a larger and better display on a flagship phone and P30 Pro is out of my budget. (P30 size could be just nice for those with smaller hands though) Beggar can't be chooser if you want to put it that way.

Guys, as I am joining the gang soon, I realise that there's not much info shared in this thread except some official specs of the models.

What are the tips and tricks when you get your phone the first time?
Case? Screen Protector? I even come across Camera Protector (?)

What to get and what to avoid? What to tweak/enable/disable? What is the best practice?

Just got my phone yesterday... only to find out that I need to change my sim card from micro to nano. Is this chargeable? Still googling around for that.

Any recommendations what to do the first time you get the phone?

Any recommended screen protector?

Is camera protector required?

What are some recommended setting to configure?

Sim Card change usually free if you go direct to Telco own customer service center, else will be charge RM10 per card.

It's not easy at least for me to differentiate DIGI customer service center and their resellers, still googling tongue.gif

QUOTE(abahwafi @ Apr 10 2019, 11:40 AM)
Mind to share where you bought it and the price ?

https://shopee.com.my/product/67583705/1732305226 @ RM2,549.00
but i see it's out of stock. You may contact the seller directly to find out more.

The phone has reached without problem although my wife was not happy with the one layer bubble wrap for a RM2.5k purchase sweat.gif

Just found out that my unit is rooted either from the beginning or after I registered some Huawei stuffs.

Is this normal?

Now looking for ways to unroot it as I need to use some finance related apps.

How do u found out it was rooted ?

In the middle of registering a Huawei ID, there was a pop-up message stating something like "Your Device is Now Rooted"

Also, I get error when I open apps (inherited from old phone via Phone Clone) such as Boost.

I have 3 problems with my newly bought Mate 20 Pro - thinking whether to ask for refund.

1. There is a small "physical bubble inside the screen" (how to emblem photo in LYN nowaday? cannot register account in pictr)

2. The phone is somehow rooted... because Boost cannot startup with error "This app is not supported on rooted devices. Please restore or update your device". I could only think of 2 culprits
- 1 - during Huawei ID registration
- 2 - maybe, it was due to "Phone Clone" from a rooted phone. My old phone was rooted sweat.gif

3. I see some thin green shades on the sides, still comfirm if this is due to #gluegate.
Kindly share what is the confirmed way to validate this.
Is this considered a defect and valid for refund or replacement?

Asking for refund or replace but the seller only can replace and best of all, color Twillight is out of stock. He asked if I am fine with Green doh.gif

Should I just press REFUND in Shopee?

Went to the shop just now. I didn't opt for Green or Black as replacement. Blue (Twillight) is still super cool for me. Will take it up and go for warranty claim after my trip.

I also got poisoned to apply a screen protector there. Not cheap at RM80 but the person in the shop who is also using the same phone told me that this is the best option for the phone. Something like NASA technology blah blah blah... overall the quality is good.

Regarding the rooted phone on Boost, he told me it's due to Security/Software Updates which can only be done in Service Center. Will do it when I'm free to do so.

In the end, it's all good and I'm happy with the purchase. Just slightly regret that I do not consider some of the bundle offer in Shopee like wireless charger, body scale, etc. I agree those are unwanted products but I'm looking for these stuffs now sweat.gif
