It is a little like save electric mode,the screen turn darker when i turn on the PS3,sometime when i click something it bright back.
I check my tv also no on the save mode,the daylight saving in PS3 was set standard.
When playing game,if the screen turn to like just white text and black screen it would turn darker.(example when saving the game in Tekken DR,when load up any game it show HDD loading don't turn off the system blah blah or at the PS3 browser)

since we are talking bout darker screens, i realised that Lair is actually damn dark! the are scenes where your charater and his dragon is just some black flying thing. At the Bridge of Ancients mission.... its black.... 1.93?? i'm not sure...

the spotlight level still ok.. its the level where u need to detroy those catapults and stuff so that ur army can pass through using ships wan leh... then u have to protect ur mantas and warbeasts wan leh.. have to protect the bridge wan leh.. have to take down 3 warbeasts wan leh... omg.. tat level so many things to do wan...

Isn't that the 'Screensaver' mode? If you leave your PS3 idle, it will automatically turn on screensaver mode. Your XMB screen will be black. And, it will be back to normal again when you do any button push.

Nope it was like that since i turn on the PS3 or half way in the game which the screen was black background with white texts.
The screensaver i set 20 minutes.
Yesterday i set the PS3 to default setting again and it was still the same.

wow, tats weird

are you on LCD TV ?? if yes, then that is the normal behavior for some LCDs when they try to emulate blacker screen, in the process the LCDs backlight will auto dim. On some LCDs, the transition of the backlight are pretty smooth but on some the transition are very obvious .
