Firstly, want to mention here that I've bought Hotlink sims countless times, and this particular time, all these issues happened.

1. Bought the sims from a Maxis dealer (with the Maxis logo in the signage and store front), seller says I MUST buy RM10 top-up, if not, they won't sell me the sim.
There was never such a compulsory action needed from other Maxis I've been to previously.
The shop's name is The Phone Shop at Desa Park City WaterFront, can google and you'll find the picture.

I've also contacted Maxis CS to tell them about this, they apologized and said the RM10 top-up is not compulsory.
they couldn't do anything but just to inform dealer management, whether or not actions taken, I don't know.

Why I still bought? I was in a hurry and didn't want to waste time. Lesson learnt!

2. The sims are for 4 iPads that the company that I work in owns. I only use it for data purposes. I've informed the store staff that I need it for my ipad, and to help me just put in the sim (since I always ask them to do and activate)
Not sure if you've used the Hotlink Red App? The platform enables me to view how much credit I have, and to buy data packages and check price etc.
Previously, when I put in any sim, it will either automatically connect to the app, or requires me to enter the mobile number, and it will be connected (unless I key in the wrong number since I have so many sims)
Now their system has changed, requiring the customer to get an SMS TAC code after successful mobile number verification.
Since when can the ipad receive SMSes?
So I called the helpline on the sim pack for help. They only told me they've changed their system, so now I have to take out the simS and put into my phone and get a TAC code.
So my initial thought was that I put the sim into my phone (which requires me to download the red app into my phone), get TAC code, reinsert the sim into IPAD and key in code, BUT CANNOT!
When I re-inserted the sim into the ipad, it will regenerate a new code and make the code i got in my phone invalid. OMG! so stupid!

I only needed the data for 1 day, so i decided to just get the data subscribed on my phone and reinsert the sim. Did this four times of in-out sim on my phone. END OF STORY!

WILL NEVER BUY HOTLINK ANYMORE!

I wanted to write in or feedback to Hotlink, but I found this forum instead.

Yes, hotlink is sucked. I bought a vip number boardband plan. They unable to change plan Nor allow me to mnp . I have paid and keep the line until now . Finally they chg my plan to red plan. It’s took me more than 5 years suffering. It’s not recommended to use prepaid hotlink.

Further more their red app is not user friendly. Everytime the app update, I need to get tac in order to log in. This is very not convenient. And this is the only telco practise this Stone Age method. For those using it for ipad or their elders will be very troublesome. Lucky there is one solution for this, MNP
