QUOTE(asellus @ Mar 23 2019, 11:00 AM) 2.4Ghz channel 1-14 can be used for outdoor PTP links without a license. The noise floor is going to be atrocious though. wow new knowledge for me. need to do research on those frequencies. For 5Ghz, the low band (channel 32-68), it can only be used indoors. So no PtP link with that. Plus if you live within 30km of an airport, you need permission to use those channels, even indoors. Also I have heard that any AP/routers that offers channel 46 to 68 must also support DFS and TFC and certified to do so. I didn't see this in MCMC documents though. For mid-band (channel 96-128), they can be used both outdoors and indoors, but your router/AP/CPE must support DFS and TPC. Now, name me any wireless routers or APs that has been cleared by MCMC to use those channels? **cricket sounds** If you have a CPE that has such clearance, then you do not need to get permission to build a PTP link in those channels. But seriously, building a PTP link using those channels is suicidal and is a hair-pulling experience. If you ask me, if I have to choose between building a PTP 5Ghz c96-128 and a PTP 2.4Ghz link, I'll choose the latter every time. For hi-band 5Ghz (channel 144-173), you can use these for PTP links anytime, no need to worry about permissions or licenses whatsoever, indoors or outdoors. The best LEGAL channels for AP and PTP usage is here. Talking about legality here, actually how many people here actually obey MCMC rules? Do you think MCMC will actually look for people running their 5Ghz Taobao Asus routers on the mid-band DFS channels? Do you think MCMC will storm the house of people that runs their Ubiquiti mesh AP on low-band channels 10km from KLIA? No, MCMC has better things to do, like removing New Zealand massacre videos or blocking Pornhub. |
