Hi guys, would like to ask your opinion on this since it's very subjective between my group of friends.

"I bought an original degree several years back to jump start my career. Family was poor and I was already working part time since college (Pre-U) and continued working in a MNC. I was not able to take the part time courses offered by some uni because I work part time selling burgers after office hours. It was a tough time indeed. Fast forward, I realized although I had the skill set and experience, I was not able to climb higher in the corporate ladder due to the fact I did not possess a degree. It was one of the requirement. I met a guy and had an authentic contact to buy a degree from a reputable uni. I even tried calling in to the uni directly after purchasing the degree, and indeed my name was in the system. It's not a fake degree per-say (but a short cut?). It's authentic and I managed to get the promotion I deserved with my skill sets."

What do you guys think about this scenario? Did the person above not deserve the promotion? Despite having all the other qualifications. Or did not deserve?

nothing is deserved through lying and cheating, if he can still sleep at night without a guilty conscience that would show the kind person he is.

He might say he has the skill sets and deserved it. Good for him and the company if this is true

HOWEVER

It is still unfair for everyone else who earned their degrees the hard way. Leave aside the issue of job performance and promotion capability and whatever sob story he can tell. Other people also are capable, other people also have their own sob story, but they don't stoop to buying degree in order to advance

It is wrong. Cheating is unforgivable. If you think you deserve promotion because of your excellent skill, then find another job that doesn't care about degree and appreciate your skill. Why die die must work in the same company and get what you want through cheating? Where is your pride? Plus forever you feel insecure because of this time bomb.

If you don't earn it in the proper way, it is still a fake degree.

-It is an authentic degree where the uni itself has people taking money and adding it to the system. Wayyyy cheaper than actually paying and studying.
-Working up a corporate ladder is tough, you don't want to change company for reasons like these.
-It is not a time bomb as mentioned earlier.
-Not everyone can actually afford to pay 60 over thousand for a degree, but rather buy in for way cheaper. Memang lah dia beli less than 10k, boleh save up. mane ade time nak save up sampai 60++k.
-Yes he is very competent, it's a business related field. Don't compare it with a doctor or a lawyer or a commander or even a minister la sial. Business is more about hands on skills and experience. And this is not about public safety *facepalm-It's not a mill degree, as mentioned it's from a reputable uni in msia.
-He plans on saving up from the promotion and then pursuing masters legitimately.

You're seriously equating a business analyst to a surgeon? What's the worst that can occur? He gets fired if he's incompetent regardless of his degree. No psychical harm done to others. Why you wanna compare

Stop equating a business person in a private MNC to a person of power who could potentially cause physical harm unto others. Ministers, doctors, lawyers, architects, etc is of course wrong to have such a degree because you need the knowledge and practice beforehand. Where else in business field you don't need to go to uni to gain experience.

That person is a lazy bum who seeks to exploit the system.

Any university doing this is not reputable, definitely a degree mill.

Lastly, I doubt that person is capable in the first place if he needs to resort to such underhand methods.

It’s not that tough to catch someone for lying their experience even when the name is in the university system.

I worked 6am to 6:30 PM (4am wake up, 5am on the bus to site) doing FIFO on 22/6 roster in a remote area. We work everyday straight for 22 days, Sundays included.

Managed to finish an MBA from a world top 50 uni and also do an hour of gym.

I get your point but here's the thing,

The system failed you, and you think it's justified to cheat the system?

Two wrongs doesn't make a right. If a person is capable but denied promotion due to some paper qualification, isn't it the promoter's problem then?

There are a lot of industry today especially in blue collar side where work experience trumps over qualification. Jobs like logistic, shipping, warehousing, crane operator, procurement and sale put skills over degree all day.


There are lots of legit night course degree or papers you can take if you really think a certificate is holding you back, but taking a short cut is just giving people a chance to cut you down.

Why need buy degree it's not hard to earn one.

In this world (less than 100 years old), you can do as you such as cheating, con-man, bribe, back-stabber, actor, criminal, etc...
Afterlife (around 1000 years or more), you will punish which you deserve to be...
