Hmm... I was in UMS for about 1 month after accepting the UPU offer of BSc.Plant Technology. (which I didn't even choose in UPU list). I remembered that my first choice was BSc.Microbiology in UKM and TESL in UMS (I didnt get it, even after getting a band 5 in MUET, a roommate of mine during the orientation week got the course and guess what? he got a band 3). Studied in SST and got fed-up with plants. After a while, I decided that this course was garbage and then decided that I should shape my future the way I want it. I submitted a formal withdrawal letter to the UMS admin office and went to do BSc.Biomedicine in Shah Alam.. Now, I'm doing medicine in India~ ahhh~ Lesson to be learned: " You determine your own future, If you dont like the course given (by those idiots in UPU department), then get out and find the course that you like." - Cybersetan This post has been edited by CyberSetan: Jan 30 2009, 05:56 AM

QUOTE(ikanmasin @ Jun 19 2009, 09:30 PM) Thanks for the reply. And how about the air fare? I checked through online. And it is RM1287 for 3 people for depart and return flight. Is the price reasonable? Yup.. the price should be around that for three people return-flight. If you bought the ticket earlier, you'll get even cheaper than that (both AirAsia and MAS). Added on June 19, 2009, 10:06 pmQUOTE(ikanmasin @ Jun 19 2009, 08:21 PM) I am taking medic o.. So, will I be inisde Labuan? You''ll get the MD (Doctor of Medicine) course in UMS. It will not be in Labuan but in the main campus. Just in front of UMS is the Likas Hospital. Lots of UMS and even UNIMAS medical students are there. The best area to stay in UMS has got to be Kg.E... They've got the best food outlets ~
however... its the farthest from the lecture halls...
I advise noobies in UMS to purchase a motorcycle/scooter/car/etc~

QUOTE(op3n988 @ Jun 20 2010, 03:33 AM) thx for replying me. ur "up-and-down" just scared me.. is tat so hard to change the course? i noe its under sst, but wondering is there any of ur frens or housemate studying at there ? just wan to noe about their opinion on tis course. I've looong past my Bachelors degree time already... and I'm no longer studying in UMS, some of my friends are still there, but they are not studying but lecturing. As a matter of fact, I quit UMS after a few months of studying there and opted for a better program outside of Sabah which have a better future.

QUOTE(ken_zie @ Jun 27 2010, 09:43 PM) this thread is very inactive this year. there used to be many newbie seeking for advises in the past few years. Perhaps not many are sent to UMS this time? or perhaps its just that they are unaware of this thread. Nonetheless, the usual time for this thread to be frequently bumped is around UPU result time.

QUOTE PHARMACY FACULTY IN UMS 26th July, 2010
KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman wants Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to expedite the creation of a pharmacy faculty.
In making the call, he said a local faculty would be able to better understand the types of healthcare issues in the state.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), there is a ratio of 2,000 patients to one pharmacist in a developed country currently.
“With the current output of 1,000 pharmacists annually, Malaysia is expected to have one pharmacist to every 1,600 patients by 2020.
“However, taking into consideration geographic disparities, it may take Sabah longer to achieve this target as some pharmacists may not want to be posted to the state.
“That is why, we need a pharmacy faculty in UMS,” he said in his speech at the Sabah Pharmaceutical Society’s 31st installation dinner banquet here last night.
The text of his speech was read by state Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun.
Apart from becoming government and community pharmacists, Musa noted there was another branch of pharmacy which was worth venturing into.
“Malaysia’s aspiration to become a high-income nation can be achieved through industrial pharmacy, which focuses on research and development of new medicines.
“If we put our mind to this, the local pharmacists can become part of teams that create new cures, helping millions worldwide,” he said.
Musa said Sabah was also blessed with biological diversity and commercialisation of local remedies that relied on local and indigenous vegetation, which could potentially generate a significant income to its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“If Sabah is able to tap into just one per cent of the global medicinal plant industry, we could earn up to US$2 billion (US$1 = RM3.2) or about RM6.5 billion, bringing with it untold spin-offs,” he said. http://www.newsabahtimes.com.my/nstweb/fullstory/40860
