So good practice is to run down the battery until 40% only and then charge back up to 100%? Or better to just charge up to 80% only?

Me usually full charged till 100% but never overnight. Once reached 100% (coz the GSam Battery Monitor app can give a chime once reached 100%). Also, me rarely starting the charging from 40%. Usually from 15% because most of me's devices will be used from morning till night before bedtime. Once reached 15% or so, will full charged before bedtime. This routine will eliminate the need to charge overnight which will degrade the battery (aka "pregnant") due to heating by charging overnight.

But since the M51 has 7,000 mAh capacity, the need to fully charged till 100% is an optional and charging till 80% (aka ~5,600 mAh) is enough for full day usage (usually...). There's a theory that charging from 40% to 80& daily is the best practice to ensure battery lifespan is maximised. But me don't have any scientific study on that from own experience. Me's LeMoto P2 is always charged at 100% most of the time and has no issues of battery capacity being jeopardised so far... perhaps the 40-80 ratio is for those "classic/primitive" charging tech which transfers the heat to the phone/battery. But if "proprietary/modern/smart" charging tech (eg. VOOC, Who-R-We Super Charge, etc.), the heat is taken by the charging brick and the phone is always cool all the time; hence charging till 100% "may" not harm the cells...

Just did 8 hours plus of SOT on m51,  surfing the net, 1 hour of gaming, fb, ig . All the time oj WiFi, still 50% of battery left.

Personally, I find changing/upgrading phones to be very tedious. I'd do it once every 2 years or so, but not more often than that if I can help it
