Y740 15
Thermals: (no need repaste!)

Keyboar deck still a bit soft IMO. Layout also requires some time to get used to

why y730 if i may ask..
besides thunderbolt 3 and rgb..

get y530 better.

cheaper, both same 1050ti.

build quality is decent also although plastic and not aluminium body like y730..

y530 has numeric keypads too.

i dont see how y730 can justify its 1k more price than the y530..
*
Y730 / Y740 has better cooling even though the cooling solution looks the same (Y530 / Y540 also has good cooling)

Build material also different (if I were to choose, I'll definitely get Y730 TBH, if the price is OK and I have the budget)

But have to admit that Y730 / Y740 is a bit overpriced

If not mistaken Y740 starting price at 8k right.
I did search around retail before place order to Lenovo Website, not much ppl carry Y730
*
Like I said, a bit overpriced (even compared with US prices)

Y530 / Y540 more budget friendly

yeah i know it has better cooling.
but not to say u need that better cooling as if the y530 cant do its cooling job well in the first place..
(of course if u can get as much cooling as possible that will be the best)

well you get my point then, it all comes down to price.
if unlimited budget i also will choose y730.
*
That's why I said Y530 also has decent cooling (as long as you don't get a lemon heatsink like mine)

New Y740 no need repaste since they include a very good paste out of the box. Not sure about Y540

Yeah price is a big factor

Just put in an order for the Y740. It was the cheapest full 2080 I could get. Hopefully they ship it out soon.
*
It's a Max-Q 2080

Ahh the stupid website showed it as a standard version. Nvm, I'll see how it goes, if no good I'll get another.
*
all brands do the same, lack of/no mention of Max-Q

is it buy online?

i checkout lowyat shops pricelist all around 230..

Yes buy online, I bought 8GB 2666 from this shop. Very fast delivery, responsive chat:
https://shopee.com.my/ADATA-SODIMM-DDR4-Ram...4899.1829201508

other options:
https://shopee.com.my/ADATA-8GB-2666MHz-DDR...1469.1380911472
https://shopee.com.my/Patriot-8GB-DDR4-2666...4661.1956156966
https://shopee.com.my/AData-DDR4-SODIMM-266...4661.1717916263
(not really recommend EITstore even thought their prices are cheaper, so I just leave them out)

edit: under 180

thanks for recommendations!!

just to check with you,
this one is alright right?
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/kingston...ugBsTR&search=1

i prefer to get Kingston brand.. and also the price almost similar with the ones you gave..

oh and also, is your stock 8gb ram from samsung too? i notice they are CL19 which is higher than other rams i seen when i was browsing lazada/shoppee.

then got other rams like kingston hyperx impact/fury, those are 2666mhz as well and cl15 or something like that. 8gb is only like 20 ringgit more than the value ram.
is it better to get those instead? or no difference? im not good about ram stuffs..

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/kingston...ugBsTR&search=1
*
That one is OK

Actually brand don't matter much...in fact most memory brands don't make their own RAM...Adata is good enough...my advice is just get the cheapest for laptop RAM

Yes the stock one is Samsung, standard spec - 2666MHz CL19

Better match the same spec for better compatibility

will have to play more games to find out the real average fps improvements.. but overall right now im happy with such a huge improvement with the ram upgrade. before this i was quite upset that the i5 + 1060 card was stuttering on dota2.. was wondering like whats wrong with my system even..
*
Yeah dual channel RAM makes a difference especially with CFL-H CPUs. Dunno why. Great upgrade though! I also added another 8GB to my Y530

I've checked my laptop and the Y740 is definitely running on the 80 watt variant of the GTX2080 Max-Q.

Now looking for a 90W VBIOS with the same device ID and rev to flash to the GC.
*
definitely worth a try but flash at your own risk

Before undervolt, i was getting thermal throttling occasionally when gaming, the max temps hit 90+ degree C. average temps were in the mid 80s.
After undervolt, no more thermal throttling and max temps when gaming low to mid 80s. average temp was low to mid 70s as well.
all with max fan speed.

so about 10~15 degree C cooler with the undervolt. all done with throttlestop.
the max temps gpu hit is 70 degree C and averages around the 60 range when gaming extensively.
haven't gotten my hands into gpu tuning. do i need to since the max temps is only 70 degree?
*
tbh -125mv is already enough

did you encounter noticable uneven core temps?

undervolt GPU too, free performance/thermal boost

realtek 8822be..

I have no such issue with 8822BE

Anyway, can change to Intel 9560 if you want since it's officially supported

what do you mean by this? uneven as in how big the range are from each other?

in hwinfo theres a section with 8 temps right? the first 4 is the cores?
*
yes, temp difference between the hottest and coolest core

if you have 8300H, the thread #0 in HWinfo is the 'real' core
