Without 3g what happens
*
2G, 3G - voice network
4G, 5G - data network

if your 4G phone cannot use VoLTE, it needs to failover to 3G or 2G.
if your 4G phone cannot use VoLTE, pray that you are in either 3G or 2G coverage.

if really infrequent, then better xox black (cheap monthly, carry forward all balance to a cap total), or yoodo (customisable, cheap). and they all outright use celcom coverage.

unifi prepaid bebas, though never expire for lifetime, have requirement to use every now and then or it will terminate, and since you are not its holder, you might inknowingly get it terminated if your dad did not use. each usage extend lifetime for another ~90 days

if I buy voice + data for him, does making voice call count for both reset for 90days? or I need him to use both?
*
any usage, no combination necessary.
the countdown resets on usage (voice, sms, or data) AND upon reload activity.
termination on day 90 of being idle.

Unifi AIR sounds like a viable unlimited failover when fibre goes down, but I am worried to plug it into vanilla B618-65d; scared TM suddenly claim ownership by pushing firmware update and locking it. For the same reason i avoided Celcom broadband.

You can update the 'firmware' if you know what I mean

I don't subscribe to that "product" line.

In fact, i don't buy into the bullshit of using VPN to bypass byte count.
If I'm the network admin, I'll be counting the raw bytes to meter unclassified network usage; if subscriber use 1MB of VPN packet to hide 100KB of Netflix traffic, I'll meter the whole 1MB.

So u mean Unifi Mobile coverage is bad?
*
no such thing as "Unifi Mobile coverage" 🤭

it's unlimited quota, limited speed - if you are able to catch its spotty presence.

you'll almost always end up roaming on another network, which you will need to purchase separate quota to use with limited speed.

You can use it lah, but not as your primary line. Else, later you'll be pulling all kind of hairs all over your body.

Planning to take 1 month to try see.
the CS told me no speed cap, seems too good to be true  hmm.gif
Unifi Mobile got e-sim? Using iphone here no dual sim.
*
Unifi AIR TnC is 20Mbps if that is of any hint. Unlimited speed as you can; TM don't need to cap you individually 🤭

I am thinking to get Unifi bebas RM35 with a mifi or 4g router for my parents so that they can use TV to watch Youtube. Can I know if the speed is enough?

I heard B818 is the most recommended router for unifi air?

So far this modem better than TPLINK MR600?
*
although I'm using digi infinite 150 in kampung, where tm refuses to install copper line and where the light from fibre thread will literally never blink and shine.

i tukar from B315 to B618 to B818.

from <5mbps to <50mbps to >100mbps.

Huge improvements when changing to newer ones.
You managed to sell the old ones when you bought new ones?
*
i never resell.
started with b315 in both houses.
then i replaced mine with b618.
when i replaced mine with b818, the b618 balik kampung.
when i replaced mine wtith fibre, the b818 balik kampung.

b315 sitting idle. i gave one away, and another will give to sibling to use with 2nd infinite150 in hostel.

b618 returned to my home. already had first unifi downtime even in initial Try-Me month, so i am planning to it as failover modem.

i would encourage you to aim b818 (LTE Cat 19, theoretical 1600Mbps) instead of b618 (LTE Cat 11, theoretical 600Mbps). better yet, aim for 5G modem outright. Unifi probably dragged expanding own 4G CAPEX because they already intended to ride on DNB's 5G infra, so you might not want to miss when it's available 30years down the road (chuckle).

a bit of info, i managed to get b618 to dial pppoe unifi. i expected the gigabit LAN port to at least be capable to match LTE Cat 11 throughput, but both supposedly gigabit LAN and gigabit WAN ports are a letdown.

deco m9+ built-in speed test <---> b618 <---> fibre (maxed 171Mbps)

deco m9+ <---> b618 <---> lte-a (maxed 171Mbps)

deco m9+ <---> tm's dir-830m <---> fibre (500Mbps per subscribed to)

You check first because back then, Sing4G mistakenly(?) put on sale but no ready stock. I did ask Sing4G of availability before ending up with who i purchased from.

Also, check out those 5G modems from my merchant.

Hv u tried b818 with unifi bebas or unifi air? What max speed can we achieve ya?
*
I have not. And won't be able to. B818 is currently ~200km away from where I live.

Comparison provided to show that choice of modem can make a difference.
Otherwise, same SIM, same placement, same 4G tower (i think so lah....)

Maybe it won't be able to increase Unifi Air's throughput as it is supposedly already capped to 20Mbps, but at least, be able to get better network and speed stability from reliable stronger signal rather than keep dropping.

What does this even mean? I want to buy calls not data
*
"what does it mean", you asked...?
what are you trying to add when it's already "unlimited"?
