if stashaway cant make money in this market crash then no point putting money in them

Thats actually true. But there are pros and cons and caveats to DIY. You will never get the favourable access and rates the big customers of brokers/investment banks offer to their familiar client . BUT , unlike funds , who are under pressure to perform and navigate tough situations regardless of economic condition. You get to sit out the market conditions you dont like, go on a vacation , and return when you are more familiar with the macro conditions.
